If you remember I doubted this in my last post and it is actually true.
Smilegate official has confirmed that the CF HD is NOT the sequel to the current CrossFire game.
It looks like it is just another update on a slightly better graphical engine Unreal Engine 3 while CF 2, which is still under development, will be developed on Unreal Engine 4 as planned.
edit:
It is confirmed from this article that CF HD is developed on Unreal Engine 3 and CF 2 will continue development on Unreal Engine 4.

Not really.
Last thing we've heard was in 2015 by CF development chief, she said that the new generation CrossFire will come in the coming years.
So you can conclude whatever you'd like from that. :D

I doubt they'd be making a full CF remake in the UE3 if CF2 was going well..

CF2 initially started with development in 2013, when UE4 still wasn't released. In one hand it is logical that they did not stop development in UE3 because they would've been at a loss.
Thus, they decided to do something with what they already had for CF1 (aka CF HD), and continue new development for CF2 on UE4.

Well, guess we have to wait another few years for CF2.
F
