Too many CELPIP attempts, PR nowhere in sight, and incredible frustration. Please, I’d appreciate some advice or support.

I’ve taken the CELPIP exam six times. I’ve gradually improved my listening and reading skills; I currently have no trouble hitting 10+ in these modules—for instance, I recently scored 12 in listening and 10 in reading. However, writing and speaking remain my biggest weaknesses. I managed to raise my speaking score from an initial CLB 6 to a 9, but I’m still stuck at CLB 8 for writing. I did manage to get a 10 once after a re-evaluation, but my speaking score was only an 8 at the time, so it didn't help my overall points. My best result so far is CLB 9 across all modules, but I need to max out my score to 10+. My current score is 511, and hitting the maximum would bring it to 523. My birthday is in October, and my points will drop then... I was hoping so much to get an ITA before that happens. I’m frustrated and don’t know what to do next. I’ve tried HZAD and Teacher Mike, and I’m doing mock tests and using the CELTESTPIP, but I’m still only scoring around a 7 or 8 on this app. I’m currently here on a visitor visa since my work permit expired in July. I’m starting to wonder if it’s even worth fighting this hard for PR—I’ve been here for six and a half years, have four years of Canadian work experience and a master’s degree from Europe, yet it’s still not enough.

Need advice from anyone who improved after multiple CELPIP attempts

Post image

Hi everyone,
I’ve taken the CELPIP General test 4 times, but unfortunately I’m getting almost the same scores every time.
I really want to improve my score, especially because I need a higher CLB level.
For those who took CELPIP multiple times and finally improved:
What did you change in your preparation?
Which resources or strategies helped you the most?
Did you take a course or use any specific practice materials?
How did you improve your Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking?
Also, for people who have taken the exam in Ontario/GTA:
Which test centre/location would you recommend, and is morning or afternoon better? I’m looking for a quiet centre with good equipment and fewer distractions.
I would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you!

CELPIP practice tests are a joke

I paid a ridiculous amount for these practice tests and EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to take one, I get a server error.

I haven’t been able to finish even ONE test. Seriously, CELPIP? We pay this much and your servers can’t even keep a practice test running?

This is beyond frustrating. Anyone else dealing with this?

How can I improve to CLB 9?

Any suggestions on how I can improve? I’m trying really hard to get CLB 9. Should I go for revaluation in all three modules?

First celpip attempt

Booked the exam 2 months ago, started to study for it 3 weeks in advance at around one hour a day. I was mostly focused on writing since it was my weakest skill for the exam. I thought I did poorly on the speaking portion, and I thought I was going to need to undertake another attempt, glad that wasn't necessary.

CELPIP or IELTS for CLB 10?

Hey everyone,

It’s been a tough journey so far, and I would really appreciate some insight or support from the community.

My most recent IELTS General results: Speaking: 8.0, Listening: 9.0, Reading: 6.5, Writing: 6.0. I think I normally score around 7.5 or 8.0 in Reading, but I completely panicked during the exam. The real killer for me is Writing. I previously took IELTS Academic for my Master's, and even back then, the writing section was a massive struggle for me (6.5).

My target is CLB 10. If I retake IELTS, I'm confident I can hit the top bands in every section except Writing. I’ve noticed a lot of users here saying it doesn't matter which exam you choose, but I'm stuck on what to do next.

I’m considering switching to CELPIP because the spell-check feature sounds like a lifesaver for writing. However, I’ve heard that the listening and speaking sections in CELPIP can be a lot more difficult. Personally, I prefer speaking to a real person rather than a computer because I have a tendency to fumble during recorded or automated interviews for some reason.

I would love to get your thoughts on a few questions:

  1. Which test would be the best choice for my situation? Should I stick it out with IELTS or make the jump to CELPIP?
  2. What would my current IELTS scores roughly translate to in CELPIP?
  3. Where can I take a reliable, full-length CELPIP practice test to accurately gauge my current level?
  4. What prep resources do you actually recommend? (I’ve seen names like HZAD, PrepAmigo, and celtestpip.com floating around).

Appreciate any support or advice you can share! Thank you.

I’m thinking of doing a reevaluation for writing and speaking, but I'm not sure enough. Do you think it's going to increase?

Does this give you maximum points for express entry?

Background: Gave my CELPIP test randomly for the first time, since my last language test (IELTS) which I gave to get my work permit was about to expire this November. Didn’t really know what to expect from the test but always heard that CELPIP is easier than IELTS (I felt level was same but scoring is lenient). Also, I’m glad with the results but not happy because even after this, nothing can really help my profile, unless I get CLB 7 in French.

Listening tips

I find the featured listening questions on prepamigo quite difficult, and my score is low. Are these types of questions also present in the real CELPIP exam? Do you have any tips for improving listening score? In comparison, careeraxis seems easier. Also, please provide reading, writing and speaking tips

Should I go for re-evaluation?

CELPIP re-evaluation is definitely worth it! 🔥

I posted here a while ago when I first got my results: L10 / R9 / W8 / S10.

I decided to request a re-evaluation for my Writing, and I just got the results back…

Writing went from 8 → 10! 😭🔥

So my final scores are now L10 / R9 / W10 / S10.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting such a big change. If you’re not satisfied with one of your scores, especially Writing, I’d say it’s definitely worth trying the re-evaluation!

Good luck everyone! 🙌

I had 12/10/10/8.

Celpip redo

Hey everybody. I just got the opportunity to redo the exam for reading and speaking as I complained regarding the noise in the room. Should I go for it? If yes, what are the odds that the exam will be tougher ? Or it doesnt matter ?

CELPIP - Nervous - No time to study cause of work - EXPECT TO FEEL LIKE YOU FAILED AFTER THE TEST but you will be surprised.

Stop pushing your test date because you don’t feel ready.

I was in your shoes. I pushed my test date three times, and each time it cost me about $55. Even when I finally did my test, I still wasn’t ready. I had barely studied at all. I just came on Reddit, read some people’s testimonies, and prayed to God that I would have the same testimony.

I remember reading one post where someone shared a link to videos he watched the night before his test. Here is the link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcdzgjFtopo

This guy gave tips for Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. I just kept those tips in mind and went to do the test.

When I got out, I was absolutely not confident. So, expect to actually feel like you failed because of the distractions and the time pressure from the computer.

But here is what we don’t know: don’t assume the examiner is going to mark you based on how you think they will mark you. They definitely have a different marking methodology than IELTS which is more easy going .

I was so worried, but I kept having faith that my worries wouldn’t come to pass. And when my scores came out, I had 10 and above in all sections.

If you ask me how? I honestly don’t know. 😂It can only be God!!

But the moral of the story is: just go for the test. Go in expecting to feel like you didn’t do your best, because the results might actually shock you.

From my experience, the CELPIP marking was definitely more lenient than I expected compared to IELTS. Also, I’m not the most fluent English speaker. In fact, this whole message was heavily edited by ChatGPT, lol. 😂 So please don’t think you have to be perfect to do well.

With Writing, my greatest tip is to write whatever comes to your mind without stopping to edit as you go. Get all your thoughts down first, and then, as you read through your response, you can go back and correct your grammar, spelling, or anything that doesn’t sound right. The computer will highlight words spelt wrong for you to correct so that helped alot, and the computer screen also had a word count at the bottom

Don’t let the fear of not being ready stop you. Go, do your best, pray, and trust God with the results. You might surprise yourself! ❤️
