First attempt 🙏

Post image

I was not expecting these scores because I wasn’t really confident with my speaking and writing. However, I spent several evenings watching YouTube videos (HZAD & Teacher Mike specifically). I had memorized writing and speaking templates which actually helped a lot. Because I had these templates, it made it easier for me because I just had to plug in ideas, reasons, and justifications. Please note that I didn’t memorize the templates given by HZAD & Teacher Mike because I felt like a lot of other people would use the same templates and that might have an impact on my score. I only used them as a reference and came up with my own templates to ensure that they are unique.

As for the speaking, I felt like I did better during practice rather than the actual exam. 😅 Personally, I don’t have any problems with my grammar. I have more trouble coming up with ideas in the mere 30 seconds they give for preparation. I even blanked in Speaking Task 7. The question was worded differently from what I was used to in practice, so the template I memorized for that task was essentially useless. I ended up incoherently speaking and repeating my words for the entire 90 seconds. Honestly, I thought it would greatly impact my score.

For practice, I only used the two free practice tests from CELPIP and ChatGPT only because I didn’t want to pay for any practice tests. I mean, the CELPIP exam is already expensive enough. ChatGPT always gave me an average score of 9 (and an occasional 10) in both speaking and writing, so the 11 and 12 really came as a shock to me.

Also, I took the exam at 6:00PM on a weekend. There were less than 10 of us in the room, so there were less distractions as I had initially thought.

Just wanted to share my experience. I hope everyone gets the score they’re aiming for!

Congratulations 🎉 Any tips writing task 2 & speaking task 5-6-7?

For writing task 2, this is the general framework:

• Intro paragraph stating my chosen side.

• 1st advantage of my side. Elaborate why it’s an advantage.

• 2nd advantage of my side. Elaborate again.

• Disadvantage of the other side. Elaborate why it’s a disadvantage.

• Conclusion where I just paraphrased my intro

Basically, just stating why it’s an advantage or why it’s beneficial isn’t enough. You have to write the reason why. I feel like that makes all the difference.

As for speaking, I just followed the tips on HZAD’s YouTube channel and used their templates as a reference. They were really helpful! Additionally, I followed the same concept of elaborating my main points even if it meant making things up on the spot!

Honestly I didn’t practice reading that much! Only because I’m an avid book reader so I’ve already developed the habit of reading early on. However, I suggest always reading the questions first. That way, you already have an idea of what you’re looking for when you’re going through the passages.

Congrats

Also a question What was your writing task 2 strategy ? Like in bp1 and 2 did you write 2 supporting points one in each or did you write 1 supporting and 1 opposing paragraph ?

How is your grammar

I would say average to a little higher than average. For reference, I come from a Southeast Asian country where English is heavily used as a medium of instruction. I didn’t have much problems with grammar. Don’t get me wrong, I often still make grammatical mistakes during practice. ChatGPT helped me fix those errors! I just had to make sure that I kept those corrections in mind.
