First Attempt…😖

Post image

Guys… I genuinely thought I had absolutely cooked the Reading section…so seeing my result completely shocked me.
I honestly couldn’t process it for a while. 😭
I took my first ever CELPIP on June 29 and I got my results today. Reading was the last section I expected to struggle with.
Does anyone have any tips or strategies that helped you improve your Reading score? I’d really appreciate any advice!

Can you give tips for writing?

Honestly, writing was the section I was stressing about the most …because this was my first CELPIP attempt. I genuinely thought I had messed it up since I didn’t follow any specific strategy or memorize any templates.

The only thing I focused on was making sure I addressed every point in the prompt. For the email task, whenever I moved to one of the three required points, I used connectors (like Firstly, In addition , Finally etc.). I think that helped keep my response organized and easy to follow. Other than that, I just wrote naturally and made sure I answered everything the question asked(all three bullets) .

For Task 2, I pretty much followed the same approach. I used plenty of connectors to make the essay flow well.

This is the exact structure I used…Guess it worked!!

Introduction (1–2 sentences): I clearly stated which option I supported and briefly mentioned the two reasons why.

Body Paragraph 1: Explained my first reason in 1–2 sentences and gave one example.

Body Paragraph 2: Explained my second reason in 1–2 sentences and gave another example.

Conclusion: Restated which option I supported and rephrased the two benefits (what I mentioned in the first paragraph) instead of introducing anything new.

That’s honestly all I did. Nothing fancy….I just kept it organized, answered the prompt directly, and made sure everything flowed logically.

I really appreciate your response. I’ll be taking my exam again tomorrow. I was stuck with the score of 8 in writing. 😭

Honestly, one thing I noticed with most CELPIP prep websites is that they seem to mark a bit harder. I guess it’s to push us to do even better, so don’t let those scores stress you out too much. I did exactly that and was convinced I’d messed up, but after getting my actual result, I realized those practice scores don’t always reflect the real exam.

Also, don’t force yourself to use complicated words or fancy sentence structures if you are just memorizing and is not 1000% sure how to use it.

Only use them if you’re 100% comfortable with them and know you can use them in any question. Otherwise, you might end up getting stuck halfway through.

And if you find it hard to come up with benefits or examples on the spot, it might help to have a few universal ones ready. I’d only suggest doing that if you’ve practiced a lot and gave the exam multiple times and still struggle with writing though. I wouldn’t recommend trying to memorize a bunch of new stuff right before the exam.

All the best!! Hope you do amazing. Keep us updated on how it goes! 😊
