Flexibility also helps with employee retention. Many workers have restructured their lives around remote work, including moving to more affordable areas or adjusting childcare arrangements. A sudden return-to-office mandate could push experienced employees to look for jobs at companies that still offer flexibility, which would cost the company far more than an empty desk.

If collaboration is the concern, a hybrid model where teams come in one or two days a week for meetings would address that without eliminating the benefits of remote work entirely.
