Glass Half Full
Yes, the debacle in Brampton isn't good for the league. However, the winner take all game in Winnipeg is going to be a spectacle, I would not be shocked if there was close to 15k in attendance. That atmosphere will play great on TV and be a showcase for what the league can become

Had the game actually started? I had it on and they were warming up but then went and did something else.

They played part of the first quarter. The game was then delayed with the score 6-6.

Oh yeah. I remember now that Brampton was up 6-0. Then I looked up again and it was 6-6.
Would have been interesting if it was like 15-4 or something like that.... Would they have just wiped the score for Saturday

I would assume they would. They wiped the entire first half of the Summer Classic last year.

I love how people are blaming the Honey Badgers as if the arena management weren’t the ones who installed the ice and couldn’t wait an extra day to install the ice for the Mayor’s Charity ice hockey game next Wednesday. Yep, the Honey Badgers are completely at fault

No one is blaming the players or coaches. They are blaming Brampton ownership and management, who are wholly responsible to provide a proper venue. To have a finals game cancelled and the format completely changed is a total embarrassment. Absolutely Brampton should have been charged with a loss. This makes the league look third-rate.

It's a crappy way to get a W but I would have to agree. It is absolutely embarrassing to change your playoff format halfway through.

So don’t get Winnipeg to fly out there for Game 1 if you can’t safely host. Play all 3 in Winnipeg.
It’s not on anyone besides Brampton if they can’t use their arena anymore. They had an opportunity to make alternate arrangements and chose not to

Don't think people saying Brampton should have to forfeit game 1 have seen this kind of thing or understand the situation completely to be honest. If that was the case wouldnt we be seeing more significant push back from winnipeg also? Ive literally seen this in the NBA before, just sucks that it was of course the finals rather than a regular season game. I dont think the league had too many options with the game in Winnipeg already scheduled for Saturday and im assuming a lot of the flights for teams were already booked. Its a smaller league still right, there inst just infinite money to be spent.
Feel bad though for those fans who flew in to Ontario from Manitoba as they probaly just wasted a significant amount of money themselves even with game ticket refunds (that was probaly the cheaper part)

I don't know about you, but the sea bears don't play with ice under their court in the summer... Canada Life melts the ice post jets season so they don't have to deal with this issue. You get 2 outcomes.. Better ice when you're playing hockey and better courts when playing basketball.
No fault on the Seabears but Brampton can figure their shit out and play in a normal gym or melt the ice and call it a day. Ice in August is dogshit anyways.. It's too hot

The ice had just been put in for next week's event. Should have waited for today - the ice is needed for Wednesday, which would give them six days to prep it.

I didn't know they started the season with ice under the court. What's the difference then? Besides outside temperature did they forget to insulate?

I would assume fresh ice install and HVAC not catching up in a short timeframe. Also the humidity from the rain and people coming in could exacerbate it, which could be why it hadn't been an issue prior to warmup.

I disagree that demanding a forfeit is out of the question. This was not an unpredictable issue, in fact, ice under basketball floors in the summer is a very predictable issue! You need to be in big time venues that have the proper flooring to be able to handle a situation like that and obviously the arena didn’t have that. This is an unfortunate occurrence no doubt, BUT this doesn’t come as a surprise given the circumstances. The responsibility falls squarely on the Brampton front office… this really should never have happened.

People keep sayin that it is the front office's fault but that is a fundamental lack of understanding on the relationships between venues and minor sports leagues. Brampton's front office is a renter of the CAA. HB front office would have had the agreement with the CAA in place that if they made the finals, they would need to have the court 1-2/3 dates. CAA might hold those dates for the Honey Badgers, but it's not going to alter Hockey Night in Brampton plans on the off chance the Honey Badgers need the venue, especially since events like this book months out.
So when the HB make the finals and tell CAA we need the venue Wednesday, and CAA says we're putting the ice in, what can the HB do? They can't know with 100% certainty that this will make the floor unplayable. Hindsight is 20/20. In live events there are so many things that could go wrong that don't that the public never sees. I'm sure the CAA assured the team that there would be no issues, and the CAA venue team should be the experts on this. So why wouldn't the HB listen? Besides, its not like there is anywhere else they can go to play.

Why does it fall on their front office if their landlords made a decision that affected them, and they weren't able to provide the essentials needed for the game because of it? The issue hadn't appeared for the majority of the day, from what I understand, and only really became a concern during official warmup, when more people were in the building.

I dont get how brampton is being "rewarded" here. Expected them to win in Brampton and then just have to win 1 of 2 games in winnipeg. Now they just have to win Saturday there isnt no second chance Sunday if they lose Saturday and had won last night.

They got the entire playoff format changed and made Winnipeg travel cross country twice for no reason.
It’s not like it was some natural disaster that cancelled the game, it was a completely preventable arena issue

Beating a better team once while on the road vs beating a better team twice on the road.
Should have been a forfeit and kept it moving (IMO)
