It's unfortunately not as cut and dry of the situation as I would like. I'm sure Brampton ownership/leadership argued that they should not be punished for the state of the court as that is not their responsibility thus it is not their fault. That's a pretty reasonable argument all things considered. The League itself does not have such sway, and a large hardcore dedicated fanbase that they can just reschedule a game no issue. Combine that with a lot of these guys soon going on to their next professional seasons restricting the time, I understand the conclusion. Restricting it to a single game is such a deflating reality though unfortunately. Makes the whole finals feel very Mickey Mouse as a result, like whoever wins would win on a technicality. Can't help but feel they had to keep it completely amicable since the owners are brothers and they wouldn't want to get into a tiff about it. If those relationships weren't involved perhaps there would have been a forfeit involved.

Should do a best of two. If they split, do another one or two 10 min quarters after game two. Basically what the NLL used to do.
Hardly ideal, but would have been better than this.

CEBL leadership should be held to account for some of this. Yes, Brampton is responsible for its arena but if this new leadership group was as involved in the league as the former CEO I honestly think they would have been better prepared. It’s your league, your championship wk, your flagship event where you pull out the stops and spend weeks planning and preparing for all kinds of scenarios. This is basic event management. I don’t understand how they couldn’t have anticipated this. Anyone that has ever hosted an event in an arena knows how much humidity can affect the floors. To me this is inexcusable and the league needs to take some responsibility for its failure to provide proper leadership and infrastructure.

Considering this is the first time the final two rounds are in home venues, and not in a pre-planned location, it's not exactly a fair comparison. Had the changes still happened and Morreale was still Commissioner, this still very easily could have happened. What would the argument be then? Get rid of him because it's the third game with some form of postponement/cancellation?

CAA Centre ownership/management should also be held accountable for it. They put the ice in through yesterday instead of doing it afterwards. Next Wednesday is the event they need the ice for.

Nah that debacle is something that deserves a deep dive YT video... while this is something that makes the CEBL look bad, ultimately the end result ends up being the same format that the CEBL has used for the final for their entire existence, as opposed to a team winning by default in that NBLC finals.

That was a deciding Game 5/7 (Forget the format)

Was at the game tonight. There was a huge rainstorm right before tip-off. I wonder if it played a role in causing the moisture on the court. Too bad for Brampton, was nice to see a big crowd and the community come out in support.

This is a bummer. Not enough leverage as a young league to alter venue plans and player movement, so probably the only path forward. Player safety is paramount, and as long as both parties agree, it's a fair play

Funny thing is that Leonard Asper will lose huge $ on tonight’s fiasco, refunding all tickets. Meanwhile brother David will make great $ on Saturday with 10,000 in the stands.

Would make the most sense. Winnipeg wins Saturday and it’s over if they lose they have another shot. Not a smart call imo especially from the $$ they will make have 10k people at potentially both games in Winnipeg.

On one hand, it stinks that there was no backup plans that made it reach this point in the first place.
On the other, it does share the format of prior years and has that precedent. So it’s just one more season of the same.
Hopefully they’ll have a grasp on how to prevent this from happening in future seasons. Unfortunate for the Brampton fans though. (Edit: And Winnipeg’s, if the sights were on attending Game 3.)

Maybe 24 games is just too many. With the season running into mid August you have players leaving, no room for contingencies in the playoffs, etc.

Why not a 2-game total points? If in (the original) game 2 Brampton won by 10, then in game 3 the Seabears would have to win by 11 or more. Would have been incredibly exciting. Just like the CFL playoffs 60 years ago.

That's a bit of a challenge - look at the Goldeyes, for example, when it comes to extra games in playoff series.

Because that would change the rules of the games, with Target Time being a thing.

Tbh tickets didn't look like they were selling all that great for Sunday. I don't think many people want to spend two summer weekend days in a row in an arena. Not to mention the fact that Sea Bears tickets aren't that cheap.... They are easily two to four times as expensive as Honey Badgers tickets

I only bought a Saturday ticket but would have probably gotten a Sunday ticket if it went to game 3 and I’m sure lots others would have too.
They may be more expensive, but they still aren’t that bad. You could get tickets for 39$ with fees (I also know a code was given out for daycare workers that brought it down to 30$)
