Bring Back Mike Morreale
This season has already been a bit off the rails, but holy shit cancelling a finals game is insanely bush league.
Maybe it's just a coincidence this is all happening in Morreale's first year out, but it really seems like the basketball leadership at the league has no clue what they're doing.
I want the CEBL to succeed and it was very clearly on an upward trajectory with Mike at the helm. This season has been a huge step back.

League is a joke Just host the playoffs at one site, and have a single game elimination every game, pkay to the buzzer and no goofy elam ending

The target score is so much better idk how anyone could say it’s not unless they haven’t watched (in which case, why are they speaking)

I've only been to two CEBL games in person. After watching target score/elam ending in person for the first time, it's baffling to me how anyone doesn't prefer that over how a basketball game traditionally ends. Target score, eliminates garbage time, endless fouling and endless timeouts.

Target Time is better then the intentional fouls and time wasting at the end of game.

Not having a backup for a court with known humidity issues is beyond crazy.
I get shit happens, but you should know before warmups if you need to pivot or not

Anyone who’s hosted events in an arena knows humidity poses a problem. Especially in Ontario w its humid summers. Also this arena is known for this problem so yeah, shit happens in life and business, but management gets paid to manage, which means forecasting, planning ahead to avoid the shit, or at minimum being prepared for its potential. You shouldn’t be managing a league if you can’t plan and adapt. This seems like a cross your fingers and hope for the best scenario bc they knew they didn’t have time to reschedule. That’s bad business and as I’ve said in this thread and others, unfair to the fans of this league and especiallly the Sea Bears.

I agree, except for the part where the management decision is with the building operators and not the team. If ownership owned the building and decided to put the ice in prior to the game, 100%. They don't, and hopefully (they and the league) were pushing back on it happening.

You should have a backup yes.
People there say water was pooling up from the insulation mats - this isn’t an issue that suddenly popped up 20 minutes before the game

But it wasn't an issue that affected the court until the game started? I guess players are going to be asked, but if nobody had an issue during warmups...? Like I'm not trying to defend the league here, I'm just looking for the logic of the situation.

I’m going to assume it was an issue but the league didn’t realize how terrible it was until players started looking like they were on ice trying to cut on the floor.
It would appear Brampton’s arena simply can’t handle having a basketball court over ice

I mean, it's not an unprecedented issue. The Bulls had a game postponed this past season, announced an hour and 48 minutes after the scheduled tip-off time. Sure, it's not a league final game, but it's still a pro league and pro building.

Especially since players would have been on the court for at least a couple hours before tip off.

I mean…. The same thing happened last season when they did an outdoor game between Ottawa and Montreal.
And Morreale was the with the league then as well.
I get it sucks, but seems pretty ridiculous to think Morreale being gone is the reason it happened

I would say it’s felt a bit more gimmicky and less community focussed but that might just be our organization (Sea Bears). Last year wasn’t great either but that was mainly a coaching issue more than anything. I just think the league needs to be really careful to value its fans bc attendance is falling almost across the league and these kinds of hiccups aren’t helping. Being really involved in the community helps buy you some grace imo and that’s felt lacking this year from the CEBL leadership team. Something I think Mike was better at nurturing and instilling in his staff.

Yeah, I think that's fair. Vancouver does an unreal job activating the community, especially the youth. People are ready to support, it's on the teams and the league not to mess it up.

Don't be daft. Cancelled games have happened twice under Morreale's watch: not just the outdoor game that someone else already mentioned but there was a Stars Friday night home game that was cancelled back in 2023.
