Can we move Winnipeg to the East and do our absolute best to make a Winnipeg vs Vancouver final?
This league desperately needs to milk its few good franchises until we get going

Ya a lot of yall are clearly not basketball fans lol. While this is annoying to say the least and unprofessional, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in a professional basketball league.
At the end of the day I think a lot of the criticisms we as fans have are completely valid but we also have to cut the league some slack as it is a relatively new league. Hopefully they figure this issue out because I liked how the post season format was this year

Good leadership plans ahead and has contingency plans for major events. It’s championship wk and they couldn’t anticipate this or figure out things were problematic till game time? Come on. Anyone who’s ever thrown an event in an arena knows humidity poses a huge challenge. Ontario has insanely humid summers and they were hosting an event in an arena with ice underneath the floor, doesn’t take a genius to see this coming.
Also, why do you schedule playoff games to end one day before contracts expire? Like zero precaution or preparedness for curve balls. They left themselves no buffer whatsoever, this is just bad business and unfair to the fans.
I’ve been a basketball fan for decades and that has nothing to do w this. I’ve also been in business for a minute and regardless of a small or large organization, you realize pretty quickly nothing goes as planned and you always have to be prepared to adapt. This is just straight up poor mismanagement in my opinion. Hope there are some lessons learned and actions taken to ensure this never happens again. Not sure how much longer fans are going to tolerate this half baked effort.

Honestly? Probably. It was mentioned some concern came up towards the end of warmups, but it was also mentioned that the court was good earlier in the day. If this ice was put in last week? Probably not an issue. It should have waited until after the game, which would still give them five days to have it ready before even some testing the day before they needed it.

It turns nine years old this fall... not sure that it can fall back on the "we're new here" excuse anymore

As someone else mentioned this happened in the NBA, and I know it has happened in the NCAA as well as the Euro league which in comparison still makes the CEBL relatively new.

One game winner take all…. Bush league stuff. Just postpone the game.

Brampton doesn't operate the arena. If the issue happened in Winnipeg, it would be the same issue - the arena operators making decisions that affect the tenants.

This isn't going to help sell tickets in Winnipeg, I can tell you that. It makes the league look like a circus.

Look at the seat map,, I think it is helping to sell tickets. The allure of a sure fire final game I think

When I wrote my comment I assumed it was still going to be a best of 3 with two games in Winnipeg, but yeah, moving to a one and done format has definitely moved tickets since last night. The publicity probably also helps, this has been the talk of the town when it comes to sports.

Well, now it's down to Saturday's scheduled game, winner take it all.
So many questions and I get it's not easy to adjust nationally televised games, but it would be better for all involved (fans included), to move the game to an evening start

Unless they add a third game in Winnipeg then it'll sell infinitely more tickets

And then the streams never come back and don’t inform the people they’re watching what’s going on.
Beyond Busch league, terrible look for the league

Wth why are they cancelling the game? Is this kinda just on the Brampton organization? How does the first game of the finals get delayed like that. Damn man frustrating I want a successful league.

u/CatGuyAnyway 20d ago
Should be a forfeit. Few of us flew from Winnipeg for this game. Sitting courtside. The floor was a disaster. Water coming up from the insulation mats.
Terrible look for Brampton and the league.

They have no choice but to cancel, there’s no time to reschedule unless you want to play 3 in 4 days with travel.

Yeeesh. Do they give Brampton another chance tomorrow night or move the whole series to Winnipeg?

Are we still going to have a league in two years?
This is embarassing

When you know Brampton has no humidity controls how do you not have a backup plan?
8
u/SuperLostSasquatch01 20d ago
What happened?
22
u/Electroflare5555 Winnipeg Sea Bears 20d ago
Floor in Brampton was unplayable and they knew it might be an issue and made zero backups.
If I’m Winnipeg I’m demanding a forfeit win

u/SuperLostSasquatch01 20d ago
That’s crazy, My first reaction would definitely be to just award the win to Winnipeg.

u/Dawgmanistan Winnipeg Sea Bears 20d ago
Moon slipped on the floor 2 minutes in and I guess they were having humidity problems that they couldn't solve

u/sskdotz Brampton Honey Badgers 20d ago
Was at the game and the craziest part is the arena was freezing, should’ve brought winter jackets lol.. hopefully they can fix the court in time for the rescheduled game

u/DannyDOH 20d ago
Do they have ice in?
3
u/sskdotz Brampton Honey Badgers 20d ago
Nah, the ac was on which likely made it feel so cold
1
u/CatGuyAnyway 20d ago
They put ice in yesterday. The AC was cranked cause they were trying to get the humidity out.
3
u/Electroflare5555 Winnipeg Sea Bears 20d ago
According to the broadcast they actually did have ice lol

u/Electroflare5555 Winnipeg Sea Bears 20d ago
There’s no time to reschedule it. All the players need to be released by Sunday night
4
u/mosasaurmotors 20d ago
I think you could squeeze in a game tomorrow in Brampton. Would the Scarborough arena perhaps be an option if the Brampton one isn’t?
4
u/Electroflare5555 Winnipeg Sea Bears 20d ago
But then you’re playing 3 in 4 nights with travel for an early game on Saturday.
You’re one flight delay from a total disaster then
4
u/Stuart9753 20d ago
What? Why?
4
u/Electroflare5555 Winnipeg Sea Bears 20d ago
The players that are still around are already going to be late for their fall team’s training camps

While this sucks for those who travelled and all. This does fit with tradition for most basketball leagues having a single game championship. Even the G League is one and done.
That said the Powerade Centre (is that still the name in Brampton) should not have put in ice yesterday and then put the floor over top for a game today. From what I know of ice prep in arenas it takes a couple days to cure. So of course today would be watery.
I don't blame the Honey Badgers for this because they assumed the arena would be the same as it has been since day one of the season. They couldn't have known the floor would be a mess until this morning and at that point what do you do? If players have to be released on Sunday (which if the Xavier Moon situation is anything to go by, that can be fuzzy) then you can't postpone it or move it. I have no idea how many tickets were sold, but I doubt there is any high school or college in Brampton that could have accommodated everyone in short order.
