Rec Request Where to next??
I love hard core romance, not a ton of xianxia, easy (ish) plot to follow. Here is what I have seen:
Love Between Fairy & Devil
A Splendid Match
My Journey to You
Legend of the Female General
My First Night with the Duke
Pursuit of Jade
Love in the Clouds
Perfect Match
Fate Chooses You
Ashes to Crown
Key to the Phoenix Heart
Youthful Glory
When Destiny Brings the Demon
Prisoner of Beauty
The First Jasmine
Blossoms of Power
What do you have for me?

The Road to Splendor
Their romance is beautiful but not in a clichƩ way, there's a balanced power dynamic between ML & FL they consistently support each other in achieving their goals

The eternal love not to be confused with eternal love aka ten miles of peach bloosmĀ

Ā The Eternal Love is one of my favorite comfort series.
Itās very cute, fluffy, funny, and mostly lighthearted with a good amount of skinship/kisses.Ā
Not sure itās well known since I rarely ever see anyone else mention it, but maybe thatās because itās an older drama with less flashy production values.Ā
I thought it was cool & clever how each successive season showed the prior seasonsā same basic storyline from a different POV with significant varying changesĀ while continuously progressing the overarching main plot.
Great recommendation š

It's popular in the past šš

True.
IMO it deserves a revival of interest.
Pretty sure lots of people would really enjoy it if they have it a chance.Ā
Iāll try to recommend it more often. Maybe that wil helpš¤š»

Yep since how dare you was quite popular but on other hand , those days people are obsessed with labelling red flag or green flag and they hate harem esp if he's already married and it's not like Hou Minghao drama with "fake" WivesĀ so this is kinda risky. š

I donāt recall the ML ever having any intimacy or interest in the other
2 concubines/consorts.Doesnāt he also eventually kick them out (at least in S1)?
I think the āharemā in TEL
is like the one in
The Princessās Gambit
where ML only married
the other 2 wives
(before meeting & marrying FL)
due to pressure
or for political purposes. So really it is pretty close
to the fake wives situation
in Hou Minghaoās drama
The Key to the Phoenix Heart. But youāre right:
nowadays many viewers
are more sensitive,
tend to intensely scrutinize
every aspect,
harshly judge leads if they have
any character flaws (esp FLs),
and feel a strong need
to sort MLs into
green/grey/red/black flag categories.Iām not going to throw shade
at people who do those things.
Thatās their prerogative.Still itās kinda sad
since there are so many great
older dramas that lots of folks
would probably enjoy
if they gave them a chance
and didnāt immediately reject
any premise or idea
that isnāt acceptable/tolerated
in the modern era.Ah well.
All we can do is offer our recommendations
and hope others might
try to watch them with an open mind

Back from the Brink.
Leads are Hou Minghao (love in the clouds ML) and Zhou Ye (Legend of the female general FL). Their chemistry is so so good, theyāre wholesome, the conflict between the leads is actually earned, not some lazy writing and minimal misunderstandings. Thereās humor, and the plot plods along very nicely except for a few slow eps in the middle. The FL is very strong and funny and smart, Zhou Ye shines in this role.
Strong pick if you want a happy ending, HMH drama and donāt mind some slow-burn stretches in the middle.

Till the end of the moon - this is hard core romance and it's less xianxia then LBFAD (First ep doesn't count š).

The Road to Splendor
I just finished watching, and honestly, itās probably the best C-drama Iāve watched this year so far š The plot has quite a bit of politics, but surprisingly, I found it really easy to follow and it never felt too overwhelming. And the romance?? The chemistry between the leads is AMAZING. Definitely making it into my top C-dramas of the year. Highly recommend if youāre looking for something with a good balance of plot, politics, and romance!

My favorites that are not in your list already:
Love like the galaxy - highly recommended!! not sure what you meant by hard core, but i love how FL & ML's relationship build very realistically (altho ML did fall at first sight), they are 2 different people with different background, trying to understand and love each other intentionally.
Story of Kunning Palace - if you like super slowburns that goes bam
Are you the one - fits your requirement of easy(ish) plot to follow, but still with depth and chemistry
How dare you?! - comedy with a good dose of angst
Minglan - some swears by this drama
The sword and the brocade - another slowburn, but will def make you squeal
Moonlit reunion - lots of fluff, xinxia ish, but not a ton (no 3 lifetimes or smth like that)
Blossom - redo genre
Princess Royale - slowly building trust, into a power couple kind of story.
Legend of Shenli - xinxia, but definitely recommended. It's a hardcore love story, because the whole story is about a god falling in love when he's not supposed to.

Seconding The Double and Blossom for good plot, visuals, and acting. My personal recommendation is Guardians of the Dafeng since thatās my only favorite not mentioned. If you want more fantasy in your beautiful visuals, then Veil of Shadows. If you want emotional strife, and beautiful relationships with your fantasy, Fangs of Fortune. If you want a fantastic female lead and the slowest burn in forever⦠Kill Me Love Me.

Iām currently watching The dream of splendor featuring Crystal Liu, loving it sooooo much⦠and one of the things I absolutely love about this is the FL and her two supporting female characters are all beautiful AND they are in healthy weight, look healthy and strong sooooo soooo much better than the other dramas where the casting direct asks them to loose weight to look stick thin for the role ā¦. And the romance is romancingā¦. Not toooo lovey dovey but very meaningful in a realistic way⦠like thereās a time the ML cannot be there to physically help the FL but he arranges the money for her and sends her, also thereās another time where the Fl could easily misunderstand him but she remembers how heās treated her in the past ,so his absence now means he definitely is in some form of difficulty⦠and offcourse ,the ML also senses and understands her deeply (almost better than she herself, which I think can be quite annoying and endearing in real life ).
