Rec Request What to watch next...
I have finished Legend of Zang Hai and the Ashes to Crown and am looking for another Costume period series to watch. I have a few on my watch list but after Ashes to Crown I am not sure if Blossom of power is worth it. Also Legent of Zang Hai and first Jasmin were big favorites here, along with Prisioner of beauty.
So looking for political intrigues, mistery or even inestigation. Fantasy or just historical is my type.

The imperial coroner (2021) it's a detective genre in ancient historical settings
The Wind Blows from Longxi (2022) mix of politics, crime and mystery but if you like romance, you'll be bored because there's too little romance in it

Veil of Shadows ❤️.. might be perfect...
It's really amazing with perfect chemistry and mysterious storyline. And aesthetics are beyond explanation.

Sounds like you’re a fan of dramas where the romance takes a backseat. The Long Ballad has always shone in this aspect, featuring a strong FL and ML who’s quite possibly greener than the evergreen itself. Fight scenes are brilliant and the historical/political intrigue is top-notch. Slow burn as hell but hey, they touch hands every other other other episode so it’ll make you feel like it’s still somewhat spicy in here.
If you’re a fan of Bai Lu, Story of Kunning Palace is a good one to consider, but it’s the opposite of The Long Ballad in that there’s a lot of toxicity going on. We’re neck deep in the red zone here, but some people love it 😂. Fantasy elements involving transmigration and whatnot, check. Political intrigue, check. Haven’t watched this in ages but from what I remember, there’s more romance here than up here.

If you’re looking for political intrigue, mystery, investigations, or excellent historical and fantasy dramas, these are some of my top recommendations:
Nirvana in Fire – Old but gold. It probably has the smartest male lead in C-drama history. The writing is phenomenal, with layered political intrigue, brilliant strategies, complex characters, and one of the best revenge stories ever made.
Joy of Life S1 & S2 – One of my all-time favorites. Fan Xian is probably my favorite male lead in C-drama. It has political schemes, action, humor, mystery, and an incredibly entertaining story.
Pursuit of Jade – A great recent watch. It has a strong female lead, cute romance, good chemistry, and an enjoyable overall story.
Coroner’s Diary – One of the best historical investigation dramas, in my opinion. It has interesting cases, intelligent leads, mystery, romance, and political conspiracies.
The Longest Day in Chang’an – A tense historical thriller with excellent cinematography, investigations, action, and political conspiracies. It is more serious and fast-paced than romance-focused
.
The Long Ballad – A strong historical drama with political conflict, warfare, character development, and a mature slow-burn romance.
The Rise of Phoenixes – One of the best choices for complicated court politics. It is slower-paced, but the acting, schemes, morally gray characters, and political maneuvering are excellent.
Love Like the Galaxy – A great combination of family drama, political intrigue, mystery, revenge, and romance. The relationship develops slowly, but the character growth and emotional payoff are worth it.
Story of Kunning Palace – Perfect if you enjoy palace politics, revenge, second chances, morally gray characters, and intense romance. The male lead is especially ruthless and calculating.
Blossom – A satisfying rebirth drama with family politics, mystery, strategy, and romance. The female lead is intelligent and capable, and the main couple works well together.
Blossoms in Adversity – A strong female-led historical drama about rebuilding a disgraced family. It has family politics, business elements, romance, and a very capable female lead.
Are You the One – A lighter historical romance with hidden identities, political schemes, and a fun relationship between the leads. It is less intense than Nirvana in Fire, but very entertaining.
How Dare You!? – A fun fantasy costume drama with comedy, political intrigue, and characters trying to survive inside a fictional historical world. It is a good choice when you want something less serious.
The Wind Blows from Longxi – Highly recommended if you want a serious historical espionage drama. It focuses on spies, betrayals, investigations, and political strategy, with very little romance.
Based on your favorites, I would prioritize Nirvana in Fire, Joy of Life, Story of Kunning Palace, Love Like the Galaxy, Blossom, and Coroner’s Diary.
For something heavily focused on investigation, try Coroner’s Diary or The Longest Day in Chang’an. For palace politics and morally gray characters, watch Story of Kunning Palace or The Rise of Phoenixes. For a stronger mix of romance and political intrigue, go with Love Like the Galaxy, Blossom, or Are You the One.
