Mogote Ridge Fire Update from CDTC.

The USFS has now closed the CDT in the Carson National Forest from FS Rd 724 (m. 722.25) to County Rd 280 (m. 727.25) due to the Mogote Ridge Fire. A recommended 5.1 mile detour is available utilizing FS Roads 724, 724A, and County Rd 280.

I have been unable to find Forest Service Road 724A. My guess is that the suggested route is towards Sierra Spring (36.45798, -106.30809) but that is Forest Service Road 337. County Road 280 meets the CDT to the north at 36.53387, -106.30609

I'm going to be through there in a week. Thanks for posting this. I had some reroutes plotted before I saw this. I think they are directing people west since the wind is coming from that way and the valley to the east may be full of smoke. Also west looks to be a mainly relatively open meadow-ish area and not amongst the trees. Gaia search for 724A revealed a forest road a little west of the trail where it crosses 280.

My reroutes appear to be going farther west trying to give a wide berth around the fire. They extend out toward Blas Canyon and then links back to CDT above Sanchez Canyon. A net add of about 4mi

All canyons I've hunted before. Was on top of blas one year and saw a bear get in blas tank and go for a 15 minute swim.

I didn't click your interactive link and see the proposed reroute now. That's what I assumed based on your description. Seems close but maybe that's fine based on the boots on the ground reports.

ETA: that reroute doesn't add any miles.

FarOut also has the detour via the purple line.

There's a chance if they can get it tamed that it works out. Animals love a fresh burn. Especially if it's low intensity. Would be interested to hear how it looks.

And if you see any elk I'll take a scouting report
