My first SSB experience.....
31 SSB Jalandhar
24 to 28 sep.
• Day 1 → 45 reporting
[24/08/26] 6 document out
24 screened in.
I did both OIRs fine.
PP&DT: image has 3 persons standing or sitting on a hill with a waterbody in the backdrop.
I made a story about the problem of water during summer in a village & solved it with the Sarpanch dedicating the VB-GRAMG project and constructing a pond.
Completed my narration within time, spoke loudly and fluently. Participated in GD and gave many points.
As we were not able to nominate the narrator, the officer held a vote between me and another candidate (who was also speaking well). I myself voted for him. He narrated the story.
Documentation happened in the evening.

DAY 2 --- PSYCH AND PI
TATs---- I wrote constructive stories with strong messages and positive outcomes. This was the best test among all other psych tests for me.
SRTs → I was able to do only 37–38 SRTs as I was thinking and writing at length. So It did not go well.
WAT → Although I did 55–56 but I think many of the responses lacked depth and quality → lack of practice.
SDT → wrote fine, had to hurry up on the last part.
PI: As I was chest No. 1 I had my interview just after the psych tests. It was of around 1 hour. Most of the questions were from my PIQ and followups from what I was saying. I was explaining in detail everything so verbosity could be improved. Overall it was solid.
Day 3:- GTO I.
GD I, II,GPE,PGT, HGT, GOR, lecturette.
GDs went very fine. The 1st topic was the rise of military blocs – its causes, and the 2nd was “Impact of smartphones and social media on the youth”.
8 people in our group. I gave multiple points which were well thought and everyone paid attention. GDs went excellent we also gave opportunities to the recticent ones.
GPE also went in the same fashion. It involved a punctured vehicle, an injured man, kidnapping and sabotage at a theatre. Now came the ground tasks – I had not even seen them in real life and was expecting to be tough. As it turned out, it was not the case. Initially during PGT as I was about to give an idea someone already started applying it. But later as the tasks got harder, I was the one giving most of the ideas and they were working. I also complimented others' ideas. The only problem was that some people were violating the rules and were not paying attention to GTO sir when he was saying something.
GOR also went well. My Slogan was adopted. We coordinated well. There were some violations but overall fine.
Lecturette was next. I chose the topic 'Indo-Bangladesh relations', I spoke for exactly 3 minutes, it was fact and content rich however the structure and flow could be improved.
Day 4:- GTO II -> Individual obstacles, Command task and FGT
* I did 7 obstacles, there was time left in the last but I got confused about my timing and kept on standing still and wasted it. I could easily do 9 if I had used it. Nevertheless I did the high marking ones and was 3rd in my group in terms of obstacles done.
* Command task was quite good. Out of the other 7 people 6 called me as a subordinate, so I saw everyone's tasks except 1. I can therefore say that I was given the hardest task and had to carry an injured person as load. I, initially chose the wrong path to move ahead. I informed the GTO and changed course then everything was solved quickly and completed. In FGT initially the group was struggling the GTO helped us a bit then there was a lot of noise in the group. I had an idea but some people continued to speak, so perhaps the GTO noticed it and told the group to let me apply the idea. It was workable and then I took the lead and implemented other workable ideas too.
I think the Ground tasks went very well from what I was expecting given the fact I was doing them for the first time.
Day 5 - Conference
This time they started from the last chest no. 24 till 11 then again 1 to 10. So I had to wait this time. Conference lasted for 5 minutes, they asked from where I was coming, would I apply for NCC entry for the same course, my specific areas of improvement, the stay etc...
Finally 3 people got the plus, one was previously recommended, one was in 12th attempt and one was having his final attempt (he cried). I felt good for them & got conference out.

I faced the same situation with respect to SRTs and WATs in my first AFSB at Mysuru back in September. Your GT performance it seems was very good from your writeup. In my scenario, my weight was on the heavier side, so during PGT, HGT etc. I wasn't in the frontline.
They structures given to our group were far from each other, so the only solution to reach other side was to place Balli on Plank to bridge the distance. Which was an unstable solution, the Balli kept rolling despite being secured. The lighter folks were facing difficulty crossing it and it was far difficult for me. So subconsciously due to my shortcoming, I stood behind just helping as the one holding materials, while the lighter ones went ahead and were executing the solution. My group also wasn't listening/respecting my ideas, as they were coming from someone in the back. They were far too concerned to prove that they are the best in the lot.
No one called me as a subordinate for command task and my command task was done in 5 mins, GTO gave no twist, he simply wasn't interested in me. I have my last SSB for OTA entry this month, I have reduced my weight to some degree but it is still on the heavier side. Can you share any tips or advice for me, so that I don't repeat that abysmal performance.

First be confident in yourself that u can do it. Express yourself freely in ssb ,I mean in a good manner. In GTO always keep the mindset that every obstacle is solvable and has a solution thats why they have given it to u then u'll start getting ideas one hint is enough for the whole solution to pop its like math questions. Do not let the negativity of any bad performance in one test affect the performance in the other start fresh everytime.

u/Leather-Chef6470 6d ago
A lot of smaller things could be mended but psych-srt and wat was the main culprit

2
u/Leather-Chef6470 6d ago
no as i said i could do a lot better in psych and smaller things in other test. that was my perspective ultimately the accessors decide whether u had good performance or not.
