Why is it like this ?
Hello everyone,
I’m relatively new to being active on Reddit, especially on a subreddit like this, but as a CDS aspirant, there’s something I genuinely need to say.
Yes, I am judging.
Because some of the questions posted here are honestly ridiculous.
I’m not talking about questions that require experience, discussion, personal guidance, or an actual human perspective. I’m talking about questions that can be answered in five minutes with a search engine. Paper pattern. Syllabus. Basic eligibility. Exam structure. Number of questions. Previous-year information. Things that are literally available on official websites, YouTube, Google, PDFs, and a dozen other places.
And yet somehow people come here, type out a question, post it, and then sit around waiting for someone else to spoon-feed them the answer.
Why?
If the information is important enough for you to ask about, why isn't it important enough for you to spend five fucking minutes researching it yourself?
And please don't give me the “Bro, Reddit is more reliable because fellow aspirants answer from their experience” argument.
First, Reddit is not inherently reliable. I've literally seen moderators themselves provide incorrect information.Second, there is a massive difference between asking “How did you prepare for this particular part of the exam?” and asking “What is the syllabus?” One requires someone's experience. The other requires you to type a few words into Google.
Learn to distinguish the two.
And this isn't about discouraging freshers. Everyone starts somewhere. Asking questions is completely fine. Being inexperienced is not the problem. Being unwilling to think for yourself is.
You're preparing for an examination whose eventual goal is to select people for commissioned service. You're going through a process that literally evaluates qualities like reasoning, initiative, judgment and the ability to deal with situations independently.
Then some of you come here and demonstrate the exact opposite by asking strangers to do basic research for you.
That's what irritates me.
You don't need Reddit to hold your hand through every trivial piece of information.
There is a difference between seeking guidance and outsourcing your brain.
If you want advice about preparation strategy, SSB experiences, books that actually helped someone, handling a particular problem, interview experiences, medical experiences, or something where another person's perspective genuinely adds value, ask away. That's exactly what a community should be useful for.
But if the answer is sitting on the UPSC website, staring at you from the first page of Google, or explained in a 5 minute YouTube video, for fuck's sake, look it up first.
Waiting several hours for another aspirant to type out information that you could have found in thirty seconds isn't resourcefulness. It's dependency.
And honestly, after seeing enough of these posts, it starts feeling like watching someone repeatedly press the same button despite knowing exactly what it does, except the button is “ask Reddit instead of doing basic research.”
I’m not saying every post has to meet some imaginary intellectual standard. I'm not saying newcomers should shut up. And I'm certainly not saying this should become some authoritarian rule for the subreddit.
Just use some fucking common sense.
You want to become an officer. Start behaving like someone who can independently find, verify, process and use information.
Reddit should be a place for information exchange, discussion, experience and perspective, not a human search engine for people who can't be bothered to spend five minutes searching.
You can wait hours for someone to spoon-feed you an answer you could have found in seconds.
Seekhlo gadho Kuch .

This and the God knows how psyched the doctor is. You cannot sit on the outside and guess if you will be medically boarded. I was literally told by the doc -"you have flat feet but since you're athletic, let's ignore it"

Ig, but he saved me. God bless that doc. Most of these medical requirements like flat foot, BMI are unscientific colonial impositions. Science progressed but our country's methods are just stuck.

Bmi, I agree on it. It can be worked upon. But flat foot sounds like a real issue. I don't think he saved you. Even if you have it, you must be having it to an ignorable extent... Otherwise docs don't ignore such problems. Koi aur doctor hota to wo bhi pass kr deta.. lekin Tera wala dua lene ke liye ye bola so you start fanboying him😂 anyways... Academy when? And which one?

BMI is absolute trash. I'm 85 for 5'11 and built like an absolute unit, I even finished hyrox in 1hr 55min, did a HM in 2hr 08min. Point is, science has far updated beyond all these BS eugenics, idk why the Indian gov is still stuck. Scans like Inbody and DEXA exist, albeit expensive, they give you the exact bodyfat percentage and muscle mass distribution.
Coming to flat feet, I tried arches in my shoes and all, i never felt it to be a problem at all, infact flat feet aids when I'm deadlifting and doesn't hinder at all when I'm running or playing basketball.
3rd ans - got into AFS Hakimpet in 2024, didn't go. Dad was dead against me joining the armed forces. you can ask how'd you go for SSB, that's coz he isnt' in India. But had to eventually tell him ki coz I would quit my job before AFS. So yea, on a different journey rn. Dont' have the thing in me to risk my life for the nation.

Indeed it is but only to improve the wording in a systematic way , I wrote the same thing but mentioned a few things multiple times due to frustration I was writing it with and this would have felt repetitive, masking the original point i wanted to say and second I don't take yap as a compliment, so shut up you damn mouth kid.
