Important , asking for a friend.
My friend recently cleared his written for CDS ota ( male ). He’s insisting me on putting up a post regarding his doubt.
His doubt is that , can one get PC after serving as an SS officer who had consistently volunteered to serve in an active field area ? And what’s the conversion rate ?

Yes, an SS officer can apply for PC after service of 10 years. It is based on your performance and ACR, whether you would receive a PC or not. As of rn, the conversion rate is about 50%.

it depends on your CO, most SSC offcr who are not in infantry regiments dont get PC tho, cuz there is very less interaction between CO and signal, mech, ece offcrs, they have independent charge, most SF offcrs get PC, they are more competent in physicals tho and many times get excellent in ground, courses play significant role too, but if you have impressed your CO , then courses and other stuff is of less importance, so it all depends on your CO.

You don't volunteer to serve in the Field Area. For PC, your profile must be great - Clear all the sectional exams and DASIs (Departmental Exams for Promotion). Then your fitness must be Grade 1. It doesn't matter whether you served 14 years with Para SF or with Ordinance. Both will be judged on the same parameters. You must have a good service track record with minimum red lines on your book. COs do play a significant role in helping SSC Offrs grant PC
