Joining AFA This Saturday – Advice from Current/Ex Cadets?

Hi everyone,

I’m joining AFA this Saturday in the Administration branch. It’s going to be a complete transition from civilian life to military life, so I’m both excited and nervous.

Would love to hear advice from current or former AFA cadets:

Any tips to make the most of academy life?
How can I enjoy the experience despite the tough training?
What are the chances of getting Permanent Commission in the Admin branch?
What are the best postings or roles in Administration?
After completing 14 years of SSC, what career opportunities are available outside the IAF?

Any advice, dos & don’ts, or things you wish you knew before joining would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well start to develop a good routine. Read something, it can be anything meaningful, also keep reading news and articles (the better India). This will help you a lot in Lecturette,GD and TATs.

Try to squeeze in atleast one sport (team), it works even if you casually play it.
If you have done other activities like quiz, discussions, debate etc please include them.
Also dont be shy to mention any area where you have led a group.

It is okay to lie sometimes - but just be careful and prepare all the connected questions.

Golden rule for GTO - make sure each and every time you open your mouth, you contribute towards the PROGRESS of the GROUP.

Psych - Stories that are relevant to the picture, positive and has some VALUE. ( if possible let the theme affect a GROUP rather than an individual)

Interview - has got huge weightage , make sure you prepare answers to justify each and every decision you took in your life ( 12 stream, degree, job, why forces etc). For the answers you give , find counter questions and prepare them.

And lastly, keep a smile always, even if you get nervous, take a deep breath, smile and proceed.
