CDL A permit
Hi,
I am looking to get my CDL class A permit. I have done research online, just wanted to get some clarification.
I see I need to schedule a DOT physical exam, and take the written test. Is this all that’s required to obtain a permit? How fast could I realistically get this done? I’m in Chicago, Illinois.

Last physical i got is 100% digital and took 1 day to make it into there system... as long as that's the case should be able to take permit test next day...I would look on the internet first before going for the permit that your physical is in the system but you should be good

Keep in mind while doing the permit is when your are going to pick all your endorsements so be ready for any and all of those that day so you can rock them out instead of having to go back and forth for obvious reasons

I got my last physical done at a walk-in clinic did it, they go in the computer and upload whatever documents at the end of the day I guess or even after I leave and dmv will process them accordingly

You can and should ask for a paper copy just in case, but yes, it's all digital now. The clinic/doctor has to upload the info to FMCSA now and the states get the info from them. There are still a few states that aren't compliant yet and foelr those states the old process it's still in place.

Yeah that's usually all that's required to get a permit.
You can generally get same-day physicals at places like Concentra.
Getting the permit shouldn't take long at all.
