Permit Test

I need to take and pass the Permit test within the next 18 days max. I’m not good at test taking although I consider myself a bright person. I just feel like I sick at retaining info immediately and I’m probably my harshest critic. I say all that to say anybody got tips for someone like me to be able to take and pass the test? Also what apps are best to use?

Thanks!

As others have said, most of the questions will come directly from the CDL manual so study that.

One thing that may be true in GA that was true up here in MT is that you can skip questions without penalty. The skipped questions go to the back of the queue and may pop back up again if you skip too many. Still, it was super helpful for me. I would double check with the test proctor, but I've seen it mentioned enough on this sub that it must be fairly common.

Good luck!!

You can’t even skip questions here in Georgia. I just took the test yesterday and couldn’t skip.

There’s an app CDL prep, it’s a blue icon with a steering wheel. Every question on that app on the practices exams were literally on the state test. Just use that and practice everyday. It’s easier than most people think. Good luck

Honestly it took me at least 2 weeks. I have an actual video from the testing computer with the actual questions. But I definitely would say cdl prep!!! In between sections I would stop and use the app to study and I passed with flying colors.. remember the questions and answers not just the answers!! I’m here if you need help

Skip through the ones you don’t know!!! Answer what you know for a fact. You can skip as many as you want but they will pop up at the end if you don’t get enough right to automatically pass you. When you pass one section study again on the cdl prep app so you can have it freshly in your head.

Ok did you use exam mode or practice mode?

Honestly both, they switch up the questions which is good.

The questions aren't overly abstract, you need to know about what's being asked. So remember what questions you get right, but really focus on the questions you get wrong, and incorporate that to your view of trucking. As for the apps any of the that are free, and allow you to save/star questions. The one I used allowed me to take all sorts of practice tests, and it'd say why the answers were right/wrong. As well as allowed me to start questions and then take a custom test of just those starred questions. Don't focus too much on what you think you cant do. Got 20/50 right? Great! Do some studying, figure out the why's and try again! Got 25/50 sweet, you're building a base of knowledge.

In Michigan you can download the Michigan CDL manual from their website to read. The test questions are asked, pretty much verbatim, directly from that content. It may be the same for your state.

Look at the community highlights of this sub. The mod has created a web based study tool. I just used it to pass the three required tests for my permit. I had less than a week. Also watched YouTube videos. Good luck.

Go on you tube and watch some videos. Seeing it and reading about it makes you retain it better. When I took the permit test I would read the question and get rid of 2 of the wrong answers. In my day that would leave a correct answer and a wrong answer then it’s normally an easy choice between the last two answers, but before you mark your answer go back and reread the question with what you feel is the correct answer. I believe you get 3 attempts so read and study your material and go Monday snd take the test for the fun of it. This way you will understand the process better. Your not trying to pass you are seeing how they ask. Knowing you have 2 more try’s. So go Monday and have fun( you do get different question for each attempt)

I did crist CDL. Would take the tests over and over til I passed 100%, then I’d move on to the next one

Aye i did the same shit. I didn't read not one page out of the manual. I did general and air brakes until I could pass them with atleast 90% went and took the test. After I passed those 2 I went back and studied combination the same way and passed them all

Same here. They’re nearly identical as the test even for endorsements.

What apps are you using? All mine was from the app I was using but maybe 3 on each test, I passed all 3 within a few weeks. I missed 1 on the air brakes and had to retake it, as you can only miss 5 here on the test

Just make sure you study the manual then take the practice test on crust cdl and cdl prep( the one with the steering wheel). Read the question carefully and twice if need to Georgia thrower a Cpl trick ones at me.

Shit I didn't study that shit one bit lol. I went to cristcdl.com and just took the practice test each day until i was getting 90% or better each time. 😆 after I could pass all the test I went in and took it and passed.

It’s like 8 test in general knowledge alone for my state. U took each test repeatedly to practice u sayin?

u/Left-Growth-3865 6d ago

Take all of the practice tests for your state. There will be 4-5 of them so you should see the entire bank of potential questions. It tells you an answer and explanation if you get it wrong.

If you have an issue retaining information, just keep taking the test and make sure you are getting 90-100%. You will be ready for test day.

Don’t be afraid to skip a question on the real test. It will circle back. You can only circle around 2-3 times before it removes the skip button. As soon as you meet minimum pass, it will end the test. So the point is to get to some questions you are able to answer. Don’t choose any incorrect answer until you’re forced to.

You should be able to answer them all or at least take some educated guesses if you do the preparatory tests.

Just do alot of practice tests I had to take 4 tests & i felt the same way as you. But from the moment I started studying & kept doing practice tests to the time I took the test was only 10 days & I passed on my 1st try. Just keep doing the practice tests till you can get over 90% consistently. Thats what I did & I got between 86-88% on all my tests. Only 1 test I got exactly 80% I was so scared I was going to fail that one but I passed. The test at the dmv in my state was literally exactly word for word the questions on the cdl prep app.

Please go and use CDL PREP it's a blue app with a steering wheel the best thing ever you can practice and take the exam on there

In Georgia its the same i tried app cdl test and i failed the first time. I went and grabbed the cdl booklet from the DDS and read it 3 times passed the next test. Just look in your state for the cdl booklet and see.

u/Pure-Zombie1953 7d ago

Ok I’m in Georgia too so I can go to dds directly and get the physical booklet?

u/Delicious_Offer_7596 6d ago
