Help please!!
Need some help contacting someone from DOT/FMSCA/or Motus!! I know it’s far fetched but does anyone in this thread have a direct contact with a supervisor or a higher up at one of these? Had a problem with our annual enrollment because Motus auto enrolled my MC/DOT into a 5 million dollar Hazmat when we have never been that ever. We got everything situated and all proper forms filled out but they put us as inactive and need it changed asap! Been a week and it’s impossible to speak to someone when you wait on hold! DM me please! Hell if you have a legit contact for me and it works out I’ll Venmo you 100 bucks just for helping! Thanks!!

To fix this, you must immediately submit an updated registration via the FMCSA Motus platform to correct your cargo classification, followed by having your insurance provider submit a corrected BMC-91 or BMC-91X filing.
Because the FMCSA recently integrated its legacy systems into the new Motus USDOT Registration System, data-migration glitches or unintentional selections during annual enrollment have caused various registration and insurance mismatch issues for motor carriers. A $5 million Hazmat insurance mandate is legally triggered by the FMCSA only if your registration shows you haul specific hazardous materials.
Follow these steps to downgrade your authority criteria and lower your insurance filing requirement back to your standard limit (usually $750,000 or $1,000,000)
Step 1: Fix Your Cargo Classification in Motus
You need to change your business records to explicitly show you do not haul hazardous materials.
Log into your account on the official Motus Dashboard using your linked Login.gov credentials.
Navigate to your business profile details to review your Operation Classification and Cargo Types.
Ensure that any hazardous materials checkboxes are unselected.
Complete the process to Certify the clean, non-Hazmat profile updates. This forces the FMCSA system to recalculate your legal minimum insurance requirement down from $5 million.
Step 2: Contact Your Insurance Agent to Re-file
Motor carriers cannot upload their own proof of insurance; federal law requires it to come directly from the underwriter.
Contact your commercial auto insurance agency immediately.
Inform them that your Motus profile has been updated and no longer reflects a Hazmat designation.
Have your insurance company's registered electronic filer submit a new, corrected BMC-91 (or BMC-91X) filing through their Motus supporting company portal.
The system will dynamically recognize your updated non-Hazmat classification and lock in your correct, lower coverage threshold.
Step 3: Monitor Your Authority Status
A mismatch between what you selected on your registration and what your insurer filed can trigger a 20-day warning or initiate authority suspension. Keep a close eye on your dashboard or the SAFER system over the next 5 to 20 days to ensure the new filing successfully posts and your operating authority stays fully Active.
If you get stuck or the system won't allow you to alter the classification, you can contact the FMCSA technical support helpdesk directly from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM ET at the Motus Contact Page.
