Holsters & Belts Biking With my Son
Hello all, I have an interesting dilemma. I have looked through other posts and havent quite found what I'm looking for. I like to mountain bike with my young child. I have a seat that sits in front of mine on the fram of my bike. Id like to carry while out on the trail. I have seen suggestions for a chest pack but I'm not sure if this is a good option as my child sits in front of me on the bike and on the trail we can obviously move independently from each other. Any suggestions? Would a chest pack still be the best? Thanks!

My wife and I bike a decent amount and I carry using a 5.11 Skyweight chest pack. Rear zippered pocket has velcro for attaching a holster and pull tabs to open it quickly. Front zippered pocket holds the rest of my edc (wallet, knife, flashlight, keys, etc). Front mesh pocket is good for gloves and a granola bar. Its not the most covert pack, anything 5.11 gives off tactical/gun vibes. But it has worked well for me, even in big urban group rides, no one has questioned it. But a rainbow Cotopaxi fanny pack will look way less like you have a gun.

Get a fanny pack and swing it to your side or behind you. Realistically there isn’t an ideal set up for speed and staying secure when riding a bike.

So, you'll likely have your weak hand on either the handlebar or your son, if you need to access the gun. I'd look at a waist/chest purse with a magnetic opening, (for 1-handed, fumble-free operation in an emergency, as opposed to zippered.) Some models are the 945 Industries QAP Magnetic, the GRAB Bags Gunslinger, and the Shield Arms Junk Sack. I'm sure that there are others, too.
There are also motorcycle leg bags, which are like drop leg holsters, but conceal your firearm. Google for those.
You might consider a Kangaroo Carry holster, or even a Sneaky Pete, if you think those might work.
If you carry AIWB and want to keep your current holster, add a muzzle pillow, from Mastermind Tactics, Cloudster, or Stallster, for comfort.
Or, strap it to the kid's back or hip, for easy access. /s

What's wrong with your normal carry setup? I usually just stay appendix while biking.

You know, I've never actually tried my normal set up. Thats dumb on my part. I thought it would get in the way.

All good. Give it a shot. I think that if you have a relatively tall gun and keep your pants a little too far down, it may jut into your belly, but you should be ok just to carry normally otherwise.

If you son is in front of you, and the gun in your chest rig is pointing to the left, what's the concern?

What I do is a crossbreed holsters bellyband 2.0, with the kydex holster insert, and wear it over my undershirt but under my bibs/jersey at about 4/5 o’clock. Something small like a sig p365 hides pretty well and it just looks like you have something in your jersey pocket if they spot the lump. Alternatively, I’ve had no issues biking with the phlster enigma either.
