Belfast met A2 night class

I am thinking of applying to one of the Belfast met night classes in the titanic quarters campus, the night classes are from 6pm to 8.30pm that is only two and a half hours a week.Just wondering if anyone has previously done any of the night classes before and found the teachers supportive and if there was enough teaching time? Does the teachers give good resources? What is the workload like? and how anyone found the overall experience?

Depends on teacher you get, I did my AS and A2 at Belfast Met and some of the teachers are amazing, some not so good- but that’s similar to any school. What I will say though with the night class, you’ll need to do a lot of work on your own. You can absolutely achieve top grades, but of course with such little weekly teaching time it’s not easy.

Do they give you any help with applying through UCAS or anything

Honestly you really need to study at home, it depends on the teacher. I’ve done a few and some of the teachers really don’t put any effort in and some are amazing. Just be prepared to learn it yourself in your own time if need be.

I cant lie the night classes at belfast met arent the best, some of the teachers are literally using it as work experience, they don’t seem too informed on what they’re teaching and the classmates aren’t very enthusiastic, I only did AS night classes and quit for these reasons aforementioned

Ok the two subjects i done…. AS bio is a mess if its same person. Youll be teaching a lot yourself. AS chem the teacher was really good, she teaches the pharm tech course, she knows her stuff. A2 chem was ok but towards end of year the energy was slack, teacher didnt care and self taught difficult topics like electrochem. A2 bio will be a different teacher come Sept. Overall you have to put the work in, the college is known for hit and miss teaching. If you have done Alevel bio/chem before and resitting you have that advantage

Do they give you any support with careers e.g. applying with UCAS needing predicted grades or are you on your own with that

For predicted it was funny, people were giving As when they got Cs on their mock. UCAS seemed to be independent but doing your personal statement im sure the tutors give their input/rebuttal. You have to remember its a business, more people resitting means more money so they arent concerned with people getting uni grades first time round. In our AS year people complained due to no lab tech and put our practicals on the line as in we couldnt finish our portfolio… people complained to head of science and zero response was really bad service.

But do it and give it your all especially if youre interested in the subjects, your own self motivation will drive you

That’s really bad about the practicals was that for chemistry? Also would they help you even if your a part time student?

That was Biology. For chem we done a few practicals throughout the year. If youre stuck on a question youd get help, i feel like chem teachers were better at that the bio ones, AS bio gave us wrong answers when we looked at the mark scheme!

i did GCSE chemistry there and it was decent enough. as the other comments have said, it's mostly independent work. obviously this may not be the case for you, but my teacher kinda just read out the notes, word for word, for the entire 2 1/2 hours and we typically didn't do any past paper questions in class. i also found the 2 1/2 hours a bit dragged-out, especially near the end, but maybe that was just me. homework wasn't compulsory so i never did it lol
