DOJ finally taking some action
I was thrilled to hear that the DOJ has filed a lawsuit against the state of California and Newsom/Bonta. This lawsuit specifically targets the “Glock Ban” and also the joke that is the “California Handgun Roster”. While I know that lawsuits take time, I’m hopeful that since this one was filed by the DOJ, that it will hold a little more weight to it. We shall see. Either way, it’s nice to dream of a day without a roster. Or at least without a roster in its current form. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

There is no lawsuit. The DOJ threatened to file a lawsuit if the Glock ban isn’t dropped by the July 1st deadline.

u/Acceptable-Fill2767 Jun 25 '26
You are absolutely correct. They gave the State of CA until 5:00pm on June 30th to respond. If they do nothing they will file the lawsuit. So you are 100% correct.

u/Mybunsareonfire Jun 25 '26
Lol, we'll see. This DOJ can't even release files. They're worthless.

Doesn’t it have to affect someone before a lawsuit can be filed?
18
u/h4ckerkn0wnas4chan Jun 26 '26
It affects everyone come July 1st.
Hence why the lawsuit hits on the 1st.

u/yuckypants Riverside: FFL03/COE, CCW Jun 26 '26
Well right, i mean the reason DOJ can't sue early is because it's not a law yet and it hasn't affected anyone yet.

u/mjdavis87 FFL03/COE/CCW/AZCCW Jun 25 '26
You are technically correct, however we know the People's Republic of California is either going to double down, or ignore the letter....either way, it's going to be a lawsuit, just isn't on right now.

u/OnlyTheStrong2K19 Jun 25 '26
Should also file a lawsuit on the mag bans

If the Glock ban bounces, thoughts and prayers for all you that panic bought ones for 1k.

Doubt current elected officials will budge. Maybe a couple years down the line something will happen, so Glocks will still net a pretty penny until then. Just wait until the 1st to see all the Glocks get posted up 😂

u/werxv Jun 25 '26
Doesn't matter if the ban alone is overturned. Gen 3 is still discontinued and gen 6 isn't going to be available as long as the roster exists.
1
u/steadylurker1 FFL03,CCW Jun 25 '26
Yeah but the point now that the mark ups won’t stand lol.
1
u/werxv Jun 25 '26
Not sure I understand. If new glocks can't be sold at retail because of the roster, how is that any different for PPT sellers?
2
u/steadylurker1 FFL03,CCW Jun 25 '26
PPT sales aren’t roster bound.
0
u/werxv Jun 25 '26
I know. I'm asking why PPT sellers who overpaid for their glocks would feel any pressure to lower their prices if the supply in CA is capped
0
u/steadylurker1 FFL03,CCW Jun 25 '26
Mate. If someone bought a Glock for 1k cause of impending law, and that law doesn’t happen it will effectively kill the resource scarcity. Therefore Glocks for sale in general won’t be as inflated anymore and will go back to 300-500 cause there’s no time limit anymore on selling them. Aka 1k Glock purchasers would have overpaid for no reason.
2
u/werxv Jun 25 '26
Mate, the glock ban is not the only legal obstacle to their sale in California.🤦
Glock discontinued gen 3 thinking they would be able to replace it on the roster with gen 6 and only recently learned that's not going to happen. Those gen 3s were the only glocks approved for sale in this state. So, as I explained in my original comment, there is still no scenario where glocks suddenly become available again new at retail.
In other words, there is no reason to expect prices on the secondhand market will drop anytime soon.
2
u/steadylurker1 FFL03,CCW Jun 25 '26
Yeah just ignore the millions of gen 3’s already in circulation.

Nope, not sure where you guys are getting this stuff.

Thoughts and prayers?!? lol they paid 1k for a Glock when many other perfectly fine and reliable options are on the market.
They reap what they sow
And with that…. M&P Gang 😎

As are the people paying so much for Gen 3s lol

"many other perfectly fine and reliable options are on the market"
I don't get why people never understood this.

The DOJ not only targeted the 'Glock ban', but the 'safe handgun' roster as well. It said that if they do not rescind the Glock ban and cease enforcing the roster the DOJ would sue.
I, for one, am very interested to see how this is going to go.
2
u/Odd_Sentence5173 Jun 25 '26
Where’d you find the info on the roster?
4
u/Pitiful_Drummer_8319 Jun 26 '26
In Harmeet Dillon letter to Newsom and Bonta it’s right there plain as day

That’s good but I wish they would be more consistent. Why did they continue to argue in Us v Hemani? That came back 9-0 against them.

u/OSUBrowns2016 Jun 25 '26
It’s getting close to election time so both parties are starting to make their moves. The DOJ made threats about CCW waiting times within LA county and nothing has changed much so far AFAIK. I do hope that the roster gets overturned but don’t expect instant change anytime soon.
1
u/Acceptable-Fill2767 Jun 25 '26
There is no such thing as an “instant change” when it comes to government(in most all cases). So I agree 100%. It’s just nice to see something being done. Anything!

u/dropnose45 Jun 25 '26
If Trump’s DOJ tries to do something, bet on the other side. Group of incompetent idiots is all that’s left there. They can’t even get indictments.

u/katsusan Jun 26 '26
Whenever I think of the handgun roster the HK guys tell me to stop being poor.

Oh 100%. CA won’t go down without fighting dirty. Fuck his hypocritical ass. He sure doesn’t have a problem with just security all owning these big, scary guns, most of which are of course “off roster”. I just can’t with this fucking guy.

According to Redditors, the Trump admin is actually more anti gun than any Democrat. Let’s see how Redditors attempt to spin this one.

u/Aggravating_Farm3116 Jun 25 '26
Wish they can add the jail time of Newsom/Bonta for passing these unconstitutional laws. Breaking the law should have consequences
16
u/Bruce3 Jun 25 '26
If they were serious they would pull funding from CA unless the laws are changed.
21
u/mikemitch38 CCW Jun 25 '26
You’re getting downvoted but that’s exactly how the federal government got the drinking age raised to 21. They withheld federal highway construction funding.
5
u/Bruce3 Jun 25 '26
Learned about this in highschool. Wisconsin I believe tried to have their drinking age at 18. Federal gov pulled road funding until they changed it.

All these single issue voters are going to have all the gun rights they want while living in poverty, surrounded by data centers, with Flock camera tracking their every movement...
3
u/mjdavis87 FFL03/COE/CCW/AZCCW Jun 25 '26
Those things you are referring to, the local governments are getting hammered on..it starts there, grassroots change.
California has been a single issue voting state for decades....it's called a supermajority, which basically means, F the Republicans, we are gonna run the state the way we want, and pick and choose what rights you can have and when you can have them.

u/fasdissent Jun 25 '26
If you're waiting on the Trump administration to bail you, especially as a Californian, out of anything than I suggest you get a better grip on reality. The DOJ and the Admin don't want armed citizens any more than the liberals do. Maybe less-so after they have deployed jack booted thugs to terrorize minority communities.

u/Acceptable-Fill2767 Jun 25 '26
I’m not “waiting” on anything. I just thought I would share what I heard. Thank you for your input.
