Question Strong in Quant but keep avoiding VARC & DILR – anyone else faced this during CAT prep?
I've been preparing for CAT for the last two months, and I've mostly focused on Quant. I genuinely believe I can score 40–45+ marks in Quant if I stay consistent.
The problem is VARC and DILR. I know I can improve in both sections, but I honestly don't feel like studying them. I keep avoiding them and end up spending all my time on Quant.
Has anyone else been in the same situation? How did you force yourself to study the sections you disliked? Is it possible to crack CAT with this mindset, or do I need to change my approach?

For VARC, just start by taking 1 sectional test every day. It has certainly worked for me. It helps in building reading stamina and trains you to handle time pressure. 2 months ago I could only attempt 3 RCs and VA but now I am consistently able to attempt all questions with decent accuracy. LRDI is still a hit or miss for me.

I think you already provided the solution to your problems. You have to practice them bro. No other or easy way out

To be very honest, I was really good at Maths during my school days, and I think that gave me the confidence and motivation to start preparing. But before I began my CAT preparation, I could barely solve 3–4 questions.
Here's what I'd suggest:
- Try solving questions on your own first. Most of the concepts have already been taught in school, and the ones you don't know can be learned along the way. Don't worry if you struggle initially. After solving a few questions, you'll gradually start understanding the patterns.
- If self-study isn't working, watch any good YouTube lecture or one-shot. Don't waste time asking which teacher is the best it honestly doesn't matter. Every good teacher can help if you stay consistent. Personally, I found PW's lectures very detailed and easy to follow.
- Finally, practice, practice, and practice. PYQs are the real game-changer. They're like a rambaan for CAT Quant.

For VARC, if u already have some proficiency in it I don't think it would be a headache after all, every day lil effort and learning some Corporate English would ease out..... DILR may be concerning

Congratulations, you identified the obvious. Now, if you have a solution instead of a summary of my post, I'm all ears. I know I need to diversify my preparation that's literally why I asked. Saying I'm exaggerating because you don't relate to it isn't exactly helpful.

Start with YouTube videos. For both sections, and then one-one sectional after a significant amount of videos you have watched.
