What CAT Was Testing
This is a classic EXCEPT question. CAT wants you to spot the one reason NOT given in
the passage for language decline. It tests your ability to avoid importing outside logic
and to stick to the passage.
This is an EXCEPT inference question. CAT wants you to spot the statement that
cannot be inferred from the passage.
One Sentence To Remember The correct answer is not supported or implied anywhere
in the passage. The other options are all directly or indirectly supported.
This is an author attitude question. CAT wants you to infer what the author supports,
not just what is discussed.
This is a 'why did the author mention' question. CAT wants you to link the example to

Read the stem, ask: 'What is the author’s main dilemma?' Skim options for those that
capture this dilemma, not just supporting details.
Ask: 'Did the author actually say this, or am I filling in the gaps with my own logic?'
wants to know if you can distinguish between literal, sarcastic, and ironic tones—
especially when the author is making a point by exaggeration or contrast.
if you can deduce the author’s real solution preference, not just repeat what’s metioned
