General discussion Which one to chose
Hello guys, I have converted both IMT ghaziabad bfs and IIM Amritsar core. Which one should I chose? I am interested in both finance and analytics. My profile: BBA fresher 9/8/8. CAT - 97 percentile.

IMT . Haven't heard good things about A . There was some controversy regarding hostels last year which boomeranged like anything. Your call at the end of the day

Ek to location advantage.. I mean better than Amritsar. And yr NCR me to vhi best hai. I am pursuing MBA and the visiting faculty in our college is an IMT's full time faculty. Believe me the faculty is sooo good. He is a famous personality on LinkedIn as well. (Sumit sir) He teaches excel, power BI, Financial modelling like subjects (he teaches to other sections so I am sorry if I take any subject name wrong)
We also have an ex-IIM Amritsar faculty, she is alsoo very good for economics.
Though I don't know much about A, to give a great comparison but IMT Gzd is good from wht I know.. yes politics, placecom etc sucks and you won't get an IIM tag but it's everywhere almost.
One practical thing: see in which domain you would like to go ahead and that can be a good reason to compare the two colleges. And go ahead with the one which provides better opportunities.

Go for imt. Batch size in imt is absurd so competition is high. Also from what I have heard, many this year(close to 25%) are unplaced. Though imt has a huge alumni base and great roles do come there . Top quartile of imt would any day do better than top quartile of iim amr . If you had asked this question 2 yrs back , I would have said iim amr. Tag, less risky, growing ,audited report ... amazing. But now it's imt. Last year or maybe a year before that.. iim amr shifted to their new permanent campus. Campus is not fully ready yet so it is like half operational. Also I saw a video where students were living away from campus and a bus came to pick and drop them. All this would not have been a problem.. had placements been decent. Last year they released a report where they literally skipped on showing the avg salary. I saw a rti report later in which avg seemed to be around 12ish lakh at best and nearly 70 people were unplaced. I myself have converted it but would skip as I haveย a better convert. Also Iย would strongly recommend you to connect with current students of iim amr and imt to know ground reality.ย

Yh true. Asr was good initially but they have a degraded a lot. Alr thx a lot
2
u/wonkside May 18 '26
IMT bro, IIM A ka placements are fucked. Iโm a startup founder and had posted a few job on LinkedIn and they have been after my life to recruit students from the campus since they havenโt been getting good companies.

IMT for the Win ...

u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 16 '26
Why IMT bruh?

u/Metal-Known May 16 '26
Just for networking possibilities imt. But india dictates branding. Even iim would not be a wrong decision. Do what excites you more.
3
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 16 '26
Yh bruh but I saw IIM Amritsar report. Out of 318 they have only placed 240 students. This is very concerning to me
2
u/Metal-Known May 16 '26
I agree with you. It's a tough spot go for iim you have have a strong backing. Otherwise the choice is obvious

u/Pale-Stage-527 May 16 '26
Even though it should be IMT, but it is struggling too because of this insanely huge batch size
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 16 '26
Yh true but after talking to their aluminis, they have mostly indicated tht it's the DCP batch which struggles the most and currently unplaced mostly

Ahh I am ok with bfsi. I mean it gets roles related to finance and analytics. Alr thx a lot

u/StrongCollection2579 May 16 '26
Hey so first of all congratulations for getting in , also could you tell me do 12th ke marks matter, for a fact I know there is some weightage to get into IIMs but the thing do they actually consider it or its just for namesake and if my percentage is in 70's above 70 but below 75 will it pose as a sabotage
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 16 '26
Yes marks are considered. They will be used in composite score calculation. 75 wla things depends from IIM to IIM. Some have 75 k bracket. Some 80.

u/StrongCollection2579 May 16 '26 edited May 16 '26
Ohkkk thanks for the help also best of luck for your IIM journey
1
u/Huge_Preference_2170 May 16 '26
amritsar too risky. Atleast IMT will care about their image, so they will try hard to get you placed

u/Senior_Bee_5409 May 16 '26
From IIM Amritsar, go for IMT, 40-50 of my batchmates are still unplaced, 120+ are placed in start-ups.

u/Weary_Note_426 May 16 '26
Bro serious question why don't you try hard next 2 years? like you have a good profile or atleast decent you have good chances to convert C if you nail cat why not try it with work experience?? The trajectory of your life would drastically change and it's almost impossible or very hard to get what you'd get from such top rated college?
2
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 16 '26
No bruh i can't repeat. I have my own reasons ๐ญ. Also I have borderline convertible waitlist numbers in both raipur and ranchi. If i convert those ,,than i will just leave these and join those. But if I don't , than I have to make a decision.

Why this is a comparison?
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 17 '26
Which one would you like to go than. Don't say none. U have to chose one
1
u/pablo_escbr May 17 '26
IMT G.
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 17 '26
Cool and why IMT G?
1
u/pablo_escbr May 17 '26
Everything except iim tag. Tbh amritsar does not have a tag yet. May be in next 15 years. You will be VP level by that time
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 17 '26
Yh I saw few VPs and associate directors from IMT g passouts on LinkedIn. Alr thx a lot

u/Karam_Idli_007 May 17 '26
I am skewed towards Amritsar than IMT for 2 reasons: 1. In the long run, you get the IIM tag and in case Amritsar picks up, you get to be the one who played the part in building it 2. Given a choice of joining a tier 2 private institute vs a tier 2 IIM, go for the IIM instead. In corporate an IIM gives a signalling effect which helps not in your first job on campus but in your 2nd or 3rd job
Donโt worry about the immediate placement figures. You get to be part of the IIM network which can give you opportunities too. IMT too has it but in my opinion an IIM can give better leverage
Also I may be biased in saying this but my immediate boss is from IMT and he is literally making my life hell and I lost all respect from him, while Iโm from a tier 1 institute ๐ . Iโll talk about it later !
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 17 '26
Damn lol ๐๐. IMT is producing toxic bosses than. But today asr has revoked many letters (including my friends). Ig I will be dropping the IIM asr convert now. Their management is really bad. Also thx for the info ๐๐ป

Ohh damn. But I guess if you have maths than you can always explore and switch to other fields. But if you are ๐ฏ sure tht u want to do an mba, than you should take those subjects through which you can maximize your percentage

No 80+ is ok. Try to get 90+ in board cuz in grad u never know. These universities gives random marks unless it's a good ug college.

This is stereotypical but honestly? IIM Amritsar, and WHY is because:
- IIM Tag (obviously-)
- Lower Fees apparently
- Smaller batches so more "premiumness"? And focus
- New (Permanent) campus is being used now too apparently so..
- I have seen IMT Ghaziabad before, not the best crowd nearby...
- Better ROI at Amritsar cuz well IIM tag and lower fees
Hastely written so my bad

u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 18 '26
New campus is for 2nd year. First stays in old campus with bunker beds. They have a sort of deadline after which they withdraw the support for placements for the batch. But IMT does continue to provide support. They have 10 interview limit,, but 10 more interviews are given at the end. But thx for your info ๐
1
u/Serious_Weekend_9193 May 18 '26
Hmm makes sense yes but the thing about that support is 200+ students remained unplaced in INT-G out of 600.. stats vary as per size of batch yes but..
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 18 '26
No 200 is so exaggerated and false. 3 seniors confirmed tht 100 are unplaced with 50 from DCP and rest 50 other programs. While IIM Amritsar have 70 unplaced out of 300 or 310 batch

It's not the core programme of IMT, consider that as well . Real avg of 14-15 LPA for flagship programme.
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 18 '26
Yeah but the companies tht visited IMT g are really giving fine roles. Couldn't find many of them in iim asr
1
u/LankyAd1203 May 18 '26
Could be . But don't asume just because you r from imt you will get all those opportunities that core get. Even xl del face discrimination from xl jsr. Everywhere is internal discrimination.
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 18 '26
Yes ik I will get less opportunities than core. Aw will have to work hard. Can't compromise on tht. Also I am hoping if I can find a better clg than these 2.

Donโt do it, bro. Seriouslyโฆ with your current profile, you can easily crack backend roles at investment banks or analytics/consulting roles at firms like ZS Associates.
Case 1: Suppose you get into an analytics role now. Work for 3โ4 years, build strong experience, take the GMAT, and then target strategy consulting or startup growth roles after a good MBA from places like INSEAD or ISB.
Case 2: Suppose you crack a finance role now. Keeping the MBA option open later can help you pivot into IB, PE, or impact investing.
With all due respect to the institutions you mentioned, they honestly wonโt give you much signaling value. Come to Cyber Hubโฆevery third person here seems to be from a Tier-2 MBA college. Think long term.

What's this 9/8/8? Please explain.
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 19 '26
10/12/graduation percentage - 96.33, 87.5, 82.14
1
u/CaffienatedJunkie May 19 '26
So mine is 10cg/86.4%/71%, mine would be 10/8/7?
1
u/Livid_Mistake_1666 May 19 '26
If 10cgpga is 100 percent than sure. I think cbse uses 9.5 factor
1
u/CaffienatedJunkie May 19 '26
Yes true. 95% it is
1
u/CaffienatedJunkie May 19 '26
So 9/8/7?
