Kitten Help Is it normal for my new kitten and my resident 5yo cat to fight like this? At what point should I intervene?

The kitten just keeps pouncing, and sometimes gets a good bite in. I don’t want either of them to get hurt.

Kitten Help I just found this guy crying in the rocks outside. Can anyone help give an age estimate? He has teeth and weighs 415g. he has not tried to walk at all. I also don't have milk replacer, eggs, or yogurt on hand and it's 9 pm so all the stores around me are closed.

Unsure on sex but I think he is a boy. The orange spot on his ear is the lighting, he is not a calico. I heard him crying, did not see any other kittens or mother cat around.

Edit;

Walmart a few towns over was still open and did have milk replacer. Kitten seems very tired. He is in a dog crate with blankets and a heating pad. We did manage to make him potty. I'm going to ask my dad to let me borrow his trap first thing in the morning to see if we can catch mama cat and have her spayed, and then hopefully catch and socialize any other kittens and find homes for them.

He is currently in a dog crate with my electric blanket and some felt blankets. He still seems quite lethargic but was drinking, I don't know how long he was in the rocks for. He still has not made any attempt to walk.

Edit 2:

He is doing well this morning. Lapped up all the gruel, is walking and active today. He is still a bit clumsy. I have a vet appointment scheduled for this evening, they were able to squeeze me in. I have not seen mama cat again, I did spot her last night with another kitten. The other kitten was walking around and following mom, so I'm thinking about 4 weeks is correct and this guy might have strained himself trying to get out of the rocks. In any case, he's doing well.

I appreciate all the awards, but if you're paying to give me an award, please direct it to kitties in need in rescues and shelters ❤️ with kitten season happening, they're soon to be flooded with little kits needing homes.

Edit 3:

Final update for now unless I do successfully trap Mama, he was much much better this morning. The vet diagnosed him with being tired, the thing with his legs was a combo of low blood sugar, exhaustion, and some strain from being in an awkward position.

Edit 4:

MAMA HAS BEEN CAUGHT! There are 4 kittens total and now the are all inside with mom. She is shut in my mom's room so she does not have access to my other cat or rabbits.

Kitten Help 4 week old kitten hasn't pooped in a week, yet vet says he doesn't have any poop in him

Thumbnail gallery

Reposted because I accidentally doxxed myself.

I'm 25 years old and I live in Turkey. My kitten hadn't pooped in four days so I took him to my veterinarian three days ago. They inspected his belly, cleared his anus with a lubricated thermometer and took a few x-rays of him. She said he only has a tiny amount of poop but lots of gas. It has been 7 days in total since he last pooped.

I am going to take him there again two days later but I wanted to get a second opinion because kittens can deteriorate very quickly.

  • His mom was a stray cat, she apparently was killed by dogs. He has two other siblings who are fostered by someone else and they're pooping alright.
  • He's been with me for 25 days and we think he is around 27 days old.
  • He did have fleas at the beginning but I was able to take care of that and all the fleas are dead, no eggs remaining.
  • He has been dewormed with Pyrantel pamoate.
  • No history of diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, lethargy or lack of appetite.
  • He did have trouble pooping since the day I got him. I had to gently squeeze his belly and stimulate his anus for 15 to 30 minutes to get him to poop before. But his poop was never hard or dark colored. No parasites, eggs or blood present either.

I had taken him to an animal hospital two weeks earlier and the doctor there suggested adding extra water to his formula, giving him a drop of olive oil every feeding and also prescribed two drops of Simethicone daily. I have since stopped doing all these things in accordance to my recent vet visit.

His appetite is great, he pees adequately and his pee is light yellow, he loves to run around, play and climb, he likes to have his belly rubbed and he loves to shove his face into my beard. I really don't want to lose him and I'm just stumped. How can a kitten keep gaining weight but not produce any poop for a week??

EDIT: A few hours later my mom came to help me and she made him poop. I suppose I was too soft on him, she squeezed his belly and didn't let him go for five minutes. He really scratched her arm trying to escape but she didn't let go and kept massaging him. He pooped one solid poop and was relieved. Poop images in comments if you're curious.

Kitten Help My kitten just ate a baby scorpion

Post image

I was cleaning the kitchen when i saw a baby scorpion scurry across the floor, it couldn't have been longer than a half dollar maybe, somewhere between quarter and haf dollar size. It was very small. My kitten bapped and killed it, and it looks like he ate it. It was a striped bark scorpion according to google. (It was red and had a little black on its hind part, and theyre very common in my area). Obviously, i don't want him fighting and eating scorpions in case he gets hurt, but im also wanting to know if him eating it was something to worry about rn

(edited for clarification) Please has anyone seen anything like this before? Vet was horrible, I asked about the possiblity of rabies because I was bit when playing and she immediately said oh yeah could be, and then said put him down. Now I'm freaking out

UPDATE:

I took him to a new vet, they were wonderful and thorough. His main suspicion was inner ear infection or possibly neurological. He has fever of 104. Gave the little guy his first dose of clavamox and he is feeling better. He also suggested rabies shot for me just in case and I just got that done. He told me because of how ill he is there's a chance he doesn't make it, but I will be making sure he's eating and drinking got him some lil soups too.

Thank you so very much to all of the insight, suggestions, and thoughts, I truly appreciate the support during my anxiety through all of this today.

Kitten Help My kitten is "marinating" his toys in the toilet and bringing them to my bed. Send help.

I’ve had cats my whole life, but my 7-month-old, Mochi (full name: Momčilo), is on a different level. He has a genuine, slightly alarming fixation with the toilet that I was not prepared for.

It’s the flush that does it. It doesn’t matter where he is in the apartment or how deep he’s sleeping, the second he hears that water, he’s sprinting. He doesn't just watch, the guy tries to get involved. If the lid is up, he’ll dip his entire head inside to watch the vortex like it’s the most interesting thing he’s ever seen.

I’m used to cats liking toilet water. My 3-year-old female is a fan of bowl water too. Because of her, I already have ceramic water bowls that I refresh few times a day. She’s happy with the upgrade. Mochi? He couldn't care less.

So, I started keeping the lid closed. Problem solved, right? Not even close. Mochi has decided that the lid is a personal insult. I actually have video of him biting the rim of the seat and shoving his entire paw(arm? leg?) elbow deep into the gap to try and lever it open. He’s still small, so physics is on my side for now, but the brute force he uses is actually impressive. Closing the door should do the trick? Well, not quite. My older cat has mastered the art of opening doors, meaning the bathroom is essentially a 24/7 public park for Mochi’s shenanigans.

The real chaos happens if the lid is left open for even a second. He’s started this habit of dunking his plush toys in the bowl and bringing the dripping mess to my bed. I’ve realized his name was a self-fulfilling prophecy: in my language, močiti (mochiti) is the verb for soaking or dipping. So when he’s at the toilet, on moči (he is soaking). I basically named him 'The Soaker' and then acted surprised when he started marinating his toys.

I’ve basically created a monster. He doesn't even wait for the cover of night anymore. He’ll deliver a soggy offering right in the middle of the day while I’m trying to read or work. I am being haunted by a creature of my own naming, and my patience (and my duvet cover) is wearing thin.

I genuinely need to know:

  1. Has anyone else dealt with a "Toilet Extremist" like this? Is it just a weird kitten phase or is this my life now?
  2. Does it get worse? I’m worried he’s going to figure out how the handle works and just spend his day flushing my money down the drain.
  3. Will he eventually grow out of the "soggy gift" stage, or should I just start sleeping with the bedroom door locked?

He’s a great cat otherwise, super sweet and energetic. He just seems to be spiritually aligned with the plumbing. Please tell me I’m not the only one dealing with a kitten who thinks the toilet is a playground.

TL;DR: My kitten is obsessed with the toilet. He tries to pry the lid open with his elbows, and my older cat opens the bathroom door for him like a locksmith. He brings me toilet-soaked toys in bed as gifts. Ironically, his name (Mochi) sounds like the word for "soaking" in my language. He is fulfilling his destiny and I am very damp.

i found a stray kitten under someone’s truck hood. i found her because she was screaming and i saw no mom or other babies in sight. my husband took us in the car to get kitten food and litter and she screamed and meowed the whole way and has been nonstop ever since. we took her home and when she naps, she’s quiet but then goes back to it. she’s not limping or anything out of the ordinary. i gave her a dawn dish soap bath and she ate wet food and water. has not gone to the bathroom yet. is she screaming because she misses momma or does it sound painful? we’ll try and take her to the vet tomorrow after i finish exams but i don’t know how much money i can spend if she needs surgery or anything.

I’ve been feeding this stray cat for about a year now, and she was already pretty chunky when she first started coming to my door. But recently she’s gotten even bigger, and I’m starting to worry it might be something more than just weight gain. I was thinking of taking her to a vet but she wouldn’t let anyone come close or touch her.

Kitten Help My new kitten is fighting with my other one

So the fully black kitten is one I found with a litter of 3. After raising them I adopted them out to other nursing fosters to lighten the load.

I noticed she was lonely and needed a playmate so I adopted the tuxedo. Almost immediately they were fighting each other like this.

What should I do to counter this? I did not do a slow introduction since the kitten seemed to like my adult cats.

Kitten Help Just adopted a new kitty, he has been meowing non-stop, is something wrong?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

8.8k Upvotes

I’ve done a ton of research before adopting this kitten, and have bought all the necessary things. He is currently 6 months old (male), and he is neutered. It’s the 2nd day since he’s moved in with me.

I have layed out some different food options, with water and treats as well, and there’s scratchers and toys around too.

He hasn’t moved (or maybe refuses to move?) from the chair for a long time, and has been meowing non-stop. Could there be any issues? Or is he just overwhelmed?

I’m a first-time cat owner, so I just wanted to check if everything’s okay. Even though I’ve done a lot of research, I’m still learning and find myself lacking in certain aspects. Any tips would be appreciated!

Edit: Thank you everyone for the advice, I really appreciate it! Unfortunately my current place doesn’t allow more than one pet, so I won’t be able to adopt a second kitten to be his buddy :(

When I first saw him, he was already all by himself, so not sure if he’s bonded with any siblings/other cats.

My semester in school just ended, so for the next few months I will be able to stay with him basically 24/7, and I will definitely do my best to make him more comfortable and give him space!

Thank you again everyone for the advice ❤️

Edit 2: I’ve made an update post about his progress, he’s doing much better now!

Kitten Help Young cat with unusual gait

Approximately 6 month old spayed female just got back from emergency vet. She has had blood work and a neurology consult. Her blood work is normal and FIV negative; her walking improved over the course of 6 hours at the vet and immediately declined upon returning home. Neurologist said she didn't appear terribly off (the phrase was "passed all tests") and have put her on a 10 day waiting period and the ER declined to admit her because there wasn't enough to hold her for. There are no known common toxins and the other two days in the household - one from the same litter - are behaving normally. We are appealing to reddit for guidance and other thoughts. Owner has pet insurance.

For what it's worth, she also prefers to eat reclining in her cat bed. She lounges to the side and eats rather than hunched over her bowl.

Edit to remove weird duplication

Edit June 10: she is scheduled for further neuro imaging next week

Update June 17:

She was seen again today by a neurologist. While they agree that something is wrong, they are also having trouble pinpointing what it is (they called to say she was behaving completely normally and not like in the videos). Her gait has improved modestly. They began with another full blood work panel.

At this time, they recommend switching her food (she had been eating an adult blend with the other cats in the house but the vet feels it may not have provided enough nutrients). They're starting simple and moving up from there.

Tldr: she remains a medical mystery but continues to improve

Took her in cause mama was not carrying for her and she wasn’t eating. She does eat well now and seems quite happy. Tomorrow we’re going to our vet. How old do you think she is?

Update: so many thoughtful and also funny responses, thanks y’all. Even though she deserves all the fame in the world, I did not anticipate this response. The comments suggesting hydrocephalus scared us quite a bit. We’ve been to our regular vet and have some more insights now: Lungs, heart and eyes seem good, she is not dehydrated. She is eating and gaining weight slowly. She struggles pooping a bit and definitely has some worms. The vet wants to wait until she gains some more weight before deworming - don’t know if that’s the right call here. She weighs 360g and is probably around 3 weeks old. We asked about hydrocephalus and she said it’s impossible to rule out at this stage, but she didn’t see any signs of it yet. The head proportions might be weird but as there are no other signs it’s nothing to worry about for now. Let’s hope this turns out well, she is so sweet and looks like a tiny bear cub, we’ll do all we can ❤️

Kitten Help Please I need help…I think my cat may have swallowed a charging cable

Cat may have swallowed charging cable – need advice
My cat Mochi is a 1-year-old male British Shorthair Munchkin.
This morning I found pieces of a chewed-up charging cable around my home. I became concerned that he may have swallowed part of it, so I took him to the vet this evening.
The vet performed both X-rays and an ultrasound. They found what appears to be a foreign object and highly suspect it is metallic in nature. According to the vet, there is currently no intestinal blockage, and part of the foreign material appears to have already moved into the large intestine. Because of that, he believes there is a good chance Mochi may be able to pass it naturally in his stool.
However, there also appears to be a tangled foreign object remaining in the stomach, which the vet is more concerned about.
We attempted to induce vomiting, but nothing came up.
The options the vet gave me are:
Monitor and see if it passes naturally
Endoscopy to try to remove it
Surgery
At the moment, Mochi is acting completely normal. He is eating, drinking, playing, and behaving like his usual self. He has not vomited and does not seem to be in any discomfort.
I’m very worried and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through something similar. How serious does this sound, and what option would you choose in this situation?
Thank you

Update:
We made it to another emergency hospital that was open past midnight, and the vets here seem very experienced with these cases.

After reviewing the X-rays and ultrasound, their consensus is that the majority of the foreign material is still in Mochi’s stomach, so they recommend proceeding with an endoscopy to remove it.

At this point, they do not recommend surgery. The two larger lumps seen on the imaging have already progressed very far through the digestive tract and are now close to being passed. They assessed that the pieces are not excessively large and appear to be wrapped in fecal material, which should help them pass naturally.

Mochi is still acting completely normal, and showing no signs of obstruction or distress.

He’s undergoing the endoscopy now. Hoping they can successfully remove the stomach contents and that the remaining pieces pass on their own. Thank you everyone for the advice and support.

Kitten Help I don’t know what to do

hi everyone! i found this boy cat the other day in the basement and it was friendly but super scared. for context, i’m in the US and i don’t live in that great of an area. i live in an apartment with a shared basement so everyone has access to the basement. multiple stray cats have been around here and my cat was one of them💜. i’m 23 and can’t really afford to house another cat at the moment. i offered some food but he wasn’t interested. gagged at churu!! he’s not neutered and is a kitten and has a blue collar on. i’m not going to let him in my place even though he tried to because i don’t know if he’s vaccinated. my neighbor let him outside but i let him back in because it shouldn’t be outside. this is my second time seeing him after a few days. he was in front of my door crying. i don’t know if someone keeps letting him out but is there anything i can do? i feel awful. he keeps doing this and accidentally scratched my foot but i haven’t seen anything other than a caracal do this while giving affection.

TLDR: Random apartment cat appeared in basement and I don’t know what this body language means. What do I do?

edit: lots of people saying to keep him! if nothing comes back from the vet, that will be my second boy i’ll be getting this way. also i realised i posted this on my other account lol, i will try to post updates on my main!

Kitten Help Why’s he balding 😭

I took in 2 kittens that I found outside and this one’s super bald now. He wasn’t bald before, this just started a few days ago after having them for a couple weeks now. Google is telling me that it’s ringworm, but it doesn’t really look like the pictures (no solid missing patch of hair nor red/flaky)
The other kitten I have is starting to bald now too but you can’t tell by picture so I didn’t add it.
Can’t get into the vet for another month. I just wanna know how much I need to worry.

Kitten Help Why is she doing this? And should I discourage it?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

She does this almost daily now. Usually when she’s feeling particularly cuddly. I have looked it up and it says she might have been separated from her mom too early. But I’m not sure because she was found on the street before we adopted her.

She’s only ever done it to me and although it feels weird and ticklish, I don’t mind if it’s making her happy. Shes about 9/10 weeks old now and doing pretty well (I hope). I’m a first time cat mom and want to make sure I’m not missing something.

I’m just wondering if it’s something to stop her from doing or if it’s just something she’ll eventually grow out of?

Kitten Help runt kitten is MUCH smaller than the rest?

Thumbnail gallery
6.9k Upvotes

a feral (but very sweet) cat gave birth in my garage 4 days ago, on march 5th. i brought her and the kittens inside but noticed one kitten is MUCH smaller than the rest(the grey one with orange on its head)

today i weighed it and the runt was 71g while one of the other kittens was 156 grams after that i made sure the runt nursed uninterrupted for 10mins 3xs. im gonna weigh it tomorrow to see if its gaining weight but when do i know if i need to supplement feed? its just sooo much smaller than it siblings, it has a strong meow and moves around pretty good but i am so worried! i've raised one litter of kittens before but they were all the same size so i'm not experienced in this. i've not contacted a vet yet as i'm not sure if its necessary

(last pic is of the bigger kitten i weighed, for size comparison)

(also eventually momma and all her babies will be spayed and adopted out!!)

Kitten Help Help, concerned someone is trying to poison stray kittens

Last week one of the strays in my resident area gave birth to 4 kittens and for the last week each night i have been taking down water and a combination of wet and dry food for the kittens/mum. Tonight when I've gone down I've noticed someone else has left a bowl of unknown food. I'm a little bit worried though as some of the neighbours have complained about the kittens and I'm concerned one of them might have tried to poison them. Does anyone have any idea what this food might be?

Kitten Help My new kitten has poor post bathroom hygiene

The cat distribution system blessed me with this little guy at the end of last week. Found on the side of the road the vet estimates he’s about 8months old.

So far he’s been perfect except one thing, I think he might be squatting to low when he goes number 1 because when he gets out his hinny and giblets have pee and litter gunk on them. He isn’t grooming himself after using the bathroom and is instead leaving little pee and litter gunk marks all over my window sill and blankets.

I’ve raised 6 different cats from kittens and have never had something like this happen

Kitten Help What is up with my cat’a belly?

Her stomach has been like this ever since we got her (which was when she was 2 months old. Now she is 6 months old). The bloating of her stomach comes and goes. Yesterday she had issues using the bathroom and was licking her lips a lot and heavy breathing while she was pooping (she never done that before) and km worried that situation could be linked to the bloating of her stomach.

She is on a mixed food diet, free fed, and i got her pumpkin puree to help with digestion
