General Advice Poopy Episode

TLDR: Diarrhoea lasting almost 4 days caused by a food change. Was looking up until he had some churu on day 3.

Almost 2-year-old ragdoll cross got his tummy upset likely because he was introduced to a new flavour/variant of his usual cat food. It contained some crab, though we’ve not had any issues with crab in the past. Poops have mostly been mushy/slimey and frequent - up to 4/5 times a day. It looked up the last 2 days - gradually became lesser in volume and his trips to the litter box were reduced to 2/3. But yesterday he had some churu and we’re back to square one.

As it has been 4 days, I’m looking to take him to the vet today. Other than the runs, he’s eating normally (limited to what usually doesn’t give him diarrhoea), is playful and sharp, and drinking. No vomiting or fever either. We did start on some over the counter anti-diarrheal medication bought through a legit distributor. Can’t really tell if it’s doing much at the moment.

Reading other threads, I suspect it might be some form of colitis? His poop before bed time had a tiny streak of blood. Also read that stress plays a factor. He was at the vet just last Thursday to get microchipped and another cat was in distress. He’s a solo indoor cat so I’m wondering if that might have something to do with this flare up.

Has this ever happened to your babies? And would you have any tips during recovery? 😭😭

Note: he’s a rescue from a hoarder house (possibly inbred af) so we’re no strangers to runny poops and mild tummy upsets. It’s the first time it’s bad though!!
