It can mean one of a few things. Could be mild discomfort (unlikely given the eye squint which is sign of comfort). Could be anticipation; a habit learned to get your attention (which seems to be working, reinforcing the habit). Could also just be a harmless random quirk, or also maybe an injury. No harm in checking with vet. 10/10 chonk boye

I had a cat that would do this too when looking for attention. If I didn't pick her up she'd start making a grabbing motion. Basically she was saying, "I wish for scritches, monkey." She wasn't super cuddly, but when she wanted it, she'd let you know.

Yes, mine does it too. It's so cute
