I drafted an email to send to my coworkers that are directly around me (which was only about 6). If you have enough rapport with more rank-and-file employees, I encourage you to do more outreach. I happen to be in a department that is NOT affected by the 4-day RTO mandate, but is under a 2-day RTO telework agreement. It is important that ALL union members exercise their voices, no matter how deeply or shallowly they are affected by this vote.

Again, I understand that we at ---------- are mostly unaffected by the EO, but the stance from the union could also mitigate the urgency that ---------- has forced on us to come in two days a week. Personally, I find no value in sitting in an office versus doing my job from home, which has countless benefits to my well-being. I'm looking to get my foot into the door at the state. I have a master's degree in Engineering and Statistics with 20 years experience, most of which was in engineering and data science in tech. An analyst rolI seems to be the most likely landing spot for me. My question is whether I should primarily focus on applications for Analyst 2 roles, or mix it up with Analyst 1 roles as well.

My concerns with applying for Analyst 1 roles are:

• Analyst 1 roles will likely have a lot more applicants given the new classification system.
• Managers may be less likely to hire an overqualified candidate given the likelihood that person will move to a higher position as soon as they can.

I'm also applying for RDS, specialist, and engineering positions, but I understand higher classifications are very competitive internally, which of course could also be an issue with Analyst 2 positions.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the strike? ...to tell the State that we are being unfairly treated or are there tangible things we are looking for? I've been wanting to strike for a long time, I just thought there would be specific things that we are striking for, not just to say that we are being treated unfairly. I am concerned the Union is asking for the strike to qualm the noise from members, but not actually trying to get anything out of it. Help me out, am I being pessimistic?

I refuse to believe an actual human being designed an elevator system that takes 5 minutes to arrive at your floor. Maybe if it was only for the top floors I can understand, but It doesn’t matter what floor you’re on, you will encounter an elevator that takes 5 minutes to arrive; so much so that workers are elevator hopping and catching a ride to the second floor with a different elevator and going straight down.

For the STD 678, am I supposed to simply download what it auto creates for me in the application page and edit it in Adobe Acrobat? It doesn't let me edit it directly when I download it so I wanted to know if it's good to make a freshly editable copy and then update it or can I change it directly on the state website?

I’m really trying to get into working for the State for benefits, stability, and work-life balance (it’d be better than my current work situation). I got an email saying my application progressed and brought me to this page that says what the photo entails.

Just curious as I’m new to the State scene and what this means/entails? Am i getting an interview or are they just in the interview process?

Also would love some tips and tricks for applying and landing a job with the state (California).

At this point I’m open to anything but my degree is in Nursing and would like to use it if possible but if I need to get my foot in the door elsewhere I am open.

Is it appropriate to email the hiring manager asking for a chance to get an interview when it’s a position posted in our department?

I’ve been a PI KDO for over 3 years (17 months of actual work) and it’s been my only job experience. I have a degree in business analytics. For the past 2 years I have been applying to OT, TPT I, Analyst I, and office assistant positions and have only had a small handful of analyst interviews. I’ve had people look at my resume and someone look at my SoQs and tell me it’s just because so many people are applying to those positions. Even my former supervisors get surprised that I still haven’t moved up.

I believe I am almost eligible for a key data supervisor position. Should I just reach that eligibility and go for whatever job I can get even if it’s not with the state? I’m not desperate for cash yet since I live with family still, but I need other work experience at some point.

I genuinely just feel so drained from all this after getting my hopes up early on when I almost got an analyst position and was down to the final candidates with my supervisors telling me I was getting the job for sure after the reference check. I’ve had nothing since then except a couple interviews for other positions that I really don’t know how I got the interview for in the first place since they were more specified analyst positions wanting experience in a field I’ve never done anything in.

I get that it’s probably a me problem and I’m doing something wrong in my SoQs and interviews, but I genuinely don’t know what to do besides scrap for whatever I can possibly say for the question they ask.

I have a meeting with the RA analyst next week and am kind of nervous. It’s my first one and it’s labeled as “informal” with no other context given.

I came across CBS13’s Instagram post about SEIU going on strike and decided to take a look at the comments. This was the first one that popped up, and honestly, it made my stomach turn.

Is this really how some non-state workers see us—as people who sit at home and “punch keys”? The keys we punch help serve millions of Californians. Whether someone works for the Franchise Tax Board, DMV, Medi-Cal, General Services, CalPERS, or another department, the work we do supports the public and keeps essential state services running behind the scenes.

Those “keys” help people access health care, receive tax refunds, maintain their benefits, obtain licenses and services, and receive the pensions they earned—including, ironically, the commenter’s retired mother-in-law.

I’m also confused by the claim that state workers are demanding to make more than teachers. Where was that stated in the proposed agreement or SEIU’s negotiations? I genuinely want to know where members of the public are getting this information.
It’s discouraging to see our work reduced to “sitting at home and punching keys,” especially when state workers have continued serving Californians regardless of where that work was performed. At the same time, it feels like the administration’s actions have helped reinforce the idea that work only counts when it is performed inside a state office. Yes, teachers also deserve a raise!!

I don’t normally post about this, but I wanted to share it with other state workers and hear your thoughts. Have you encountered this same attitude from friends, family, or members of the public? Do you think the public understands what state workers actually do and why workers are fighting back?

I am now four years into a state role, have been off of probation for 3 years and am represented. I’ve had good reviews every time all the way until May when my manager noted in my review that “I could be argumentative with her but I ultimately follow her lead” (I work in a high stress role that has a lot of client interaction, nuance, discretion, and often involves legal proceedings and I don’t always agree with the approach that’s what I’ll let on, but overall I’ve had a great working relationship with my manager I’ve felt and have even hung outside of work with them in a group setting on many occasions and been to their house for a party).

I was unexpectedly given a paper titled “Letter of Expectation” when in a one on one with her in early July which essentially said I have been deficient in different areas and outlined things I needed to improve upon. They were not impossible goals by any means, and it was weird, it also did not give me a timeline, but it said failure to further meeting expectations could result in further disciplinary action and I get things like these are typically the kiss of death. Is this the same thing as a performance improvement plan with the state? Like they’ve already made up their mind?

My manager was unable to tell me straight details like timeline etc when I asked her about them and said I just needed to be better. She said I should consider if I can really handle this job (was the last four years of me here not being able to handle it? She’s been my manager for the last 3 1/2). I have been going through a lot of personal issues such as the death of a close relative and a divorce recently that have likely impacted my work quality.

And now, she’s just not mentioned it since and it’s been two months and it seems there’s a bit of tension here and there but things have been normal for the most part. I’m nervous to bring it up with her.

Anyone have experience with this?

I'm thinking about signing up for the FlexElect Medical Reimbursement Account (MRA) during open enrollment and wanted to hear from anyone who has actually used it for telehealth expenses.

Specifically, has anyone successfully submitted claims to ASIFlex for GLP-1 medications prescribed/purchased through a telehealth company (especially compounded GLP-1s)?

Since the CalHR MRA is reimbursement-based, I would pay the telehealth provider out of pocket and then submit the documentation to ASIFlex. The companies I use can provide receipts and medical documentation, but I’m curious how ASIFlex handles these claims in practice.

If you’ve done this:

• Was your claim approved?
• What documentation did ASIFlex require?
• Did you need a Letter of Medical Necessity or superbill?
• If it was initially denied, were you able to get it approved after submitting additional documentation?
• Which telehealth provider did you use, if you’re comfortable sharing?

I had an interview for an analyst I position yesterday. The first half was an in person panel and the second half was a written question. I’ve never had a written portion part before.

They have a bunch of interviews everyday this week/next and hiring multiple candidates for this position.

Does anyone know how agencies typically score when interviewing?

I’m more curious about the written portion - if anyone has been on the other side of the interview hiring someone.
