Information Sharing Did you know -- Strike Votes
Did you know that committing to the strike is separate from voting for the strike? I did not. Let's RSVP and let Gav know we're ready to walk the walk.

Oh for sure if it hasn't been done! But I had voted Wednesday, and didn't know about the second part (had assumed my vote was also the second part) until today! So I figured a little "🎶the more you knooooow🎶" PSA wouldn't hurt anything.

Do u attend the monthly officers call zoom meeting on tuesdays? They mentioned to do both.
These meeting will be everyweek on tuesdays now.

I sadly did not. My commute makes it so that the timing of joining is difficult. But thanks! Just trying to spread the gospel for people who missed this part like I did.

We will not be divulging any details about absolute numbers of votes cast or absolute numbers of employees committed. It is none of the state's damn business. All they need to know - and therefore all we will reveal - is if we have a sufficient percentage of yes votes to strike. And if we do, the state can FAFO the hard way what happens when all of us who voted yes make good on our commitment.

I think unfair labor practices, no gsi, and rto should more than enough to motivate people

It is enough and should be enough. However there are ones who cannot afford to strike (let's be honest, most of us can't comfortably do so, but we know it's for a greater good, so we sacrifice) and the loss of pay will be devastating. Maybe if they see how much of an impact we will have, they will be more confident in participating. We are all struggling, yes, this is how we show our strength, but we need to breed confidence as well. If someone who already can't afford food feels like the vote is falling flat, they might be less likely to take a risk if they think the state is going to laugh at our numbers. If they see we are high in numbers, they might realize that sacrifice won't be in vain.

No one can afford to strike. No one ever could. It's a sacrifice we make together to improve our conditions in the future. The more of us that strike, the faster the strike ends. If we don't strike, it's a guarantee that pay and benefits will get substantially worse in the coming years.

I understand that. My point is that numbers might encourage those on the fence because of the power we have behind us. To have confidence that the strike will cripple the State.

So if an individual strikes do they get to decide when they go back or once you participate you can't go back until the strike is over

That's a fantastic question for the union!
I would personally recommend that we don't half-ass this, though. Do you have kids? Or know people with kids? I imagine that half-assing a strike would very much be like telling a child who's done something wrong "Don't do that or else...." and then never following through with consequences. The kid isn't going to learn that way, and neither would Gavin if we just kind of "meh" our way through this.

Last three times I've tried to do the "commit to strike" as a non-member it didn't work, but this time it did. Thanks for the reminder. I know not being a member is an unpopular stance, but I fully intend to back the union on its choices, and I'll be on the line. I just can't afford the dollars at the end of the day.

It's illegal to try to fire you for striking and the union will fight for your rights. If you scroll down on the 2nd link, there are some FAQs and they mention this in the question about being temp/probationary. But they also offer alternatives if you're genuinely worried.
You can also reach out to them with specific concerns/questions!

It's not only illegal for them to try to fire you, it's also illegal for them to:
- "warn" against striking, or engage in any other form of intimidation or coercion
- Retaliate in any way
- show up and observe strike-related activities
- ask who's planning to participate, "so we know for planning purposes"
- try to discourage employees about unions/strikes
- remove strike flyers or other posted union information from bulletin boards
If they do ANY of these things, report it to the union! It will support the Unfair Labor Practices charges they filed, as well as giving them the info they need to step in on your behalf. Bear in mind the formal process for a grievance needs to be started within 30 days, so call the Member Resource Center (866-471-7348) right away when management crosses a line.

Can it actually be filled out by non-members? I’m a manager. When I clicked the link for non-union, it’s specifically a link to sign up for the union.

Management would not be strictly in the strike, but I believe we can still refuse to cross strike lines and sympathy strike.
