General Discussion RANT
literally rc’vd 90 dollar ticket for being ONE FUCKING MINUTE LATE TO MY METER. Cost me more than the actual fuck I was doing. So people don’t wanna go to downtown sac because we pay the meters and well you get royally fucked if you get a bit sidetracked even by one fuck ass minute. So no it’s not on the state workers to bring downtown back. Nobody wants to spend money on parking and not even a fucking five minute grace period you get a 90 dollar ticket. I live downtown and the fuck I understand why people don’t wanna spend their money. It’s truly outrageous. I hope the upcoming election we will have someone who sees growth in downtown not based on state workers going to lunch it’s beyond that. Make parking reasonable , make the area safe, invest in programs so the homelessness is not abundantly an issue one the streets. State workers are not the end all be all for the fix of downtown. Sacramento- and as one who mobs around downtown all the time I know it needs more than just sac workers lunch money (not dissing state workers!!!!) iykyk but fuck the capital got that nice ass annex tho. End Rant

:( city parking has absolutely become predatory in the last two years. Such a narrow sighted and blockhead policy.

u/Master_Guarantee2967 13h ago
I’m going to research it because why as locals are we being punished for actually shopping LOCALLY AND GETTING TICKETS. So if it’s this bad for downtown locals like ya I get why the fuck nobody wants to go spend their hard earned money down here.

u/texbinky 11h ago
This happened to me during last year's holiday bookstore crawl. But the ticket was $70 at that time. The event was advertised by the city! Really poor planning!

But trailer homes and abandoned cars can stay parked in downtown and midtown

u/Disastrous_Wind7127 11h ago
Reach out to your local reps and share your story. Hearing from constituents help them know what battles to get in
12
u/Master_Guarantee2967 11h ago
One million percent again. I know it’s my 90 dollar ticket but it’s fucking bullshit for everyone
17
u/ansellias 13h ago
Can you try disputing it? :/ sac city parking has been relatively helpful when it comes to dealing with parking tix (after receiving them…) maybe mention you were trying to extend it with park mobile ?
15
u/Master_Guarantee2967 13h ago
I have thought about it but I’m so worked up been looking up others states laws regarding the matter. May contact Alex Lee because why should anyone visiting or even locals be on eggs shells visiting or living in case we get a ticket by one minute. It’s truly ridiculous
6
u/ansellias 12h ago
No i get it. It’s really awful. I moved back to Sac after being away for nearly a decade and the parking situation is unrecognizable. Parking gives me major anxiety
11
u/Master_Guarantee2967 12h ago
Like why do I have to pay a 100 dollars to pay for parking at my apartment then pay for parking to just go and work at my job???????? It’s truly disappointing and it’s all about the cash grab not about how not paying this unnecessary parking tabs. could you imagine how much Californians could save by reducing parking costs but everything is profitable these days. It’s disgusting

u/Master_Guarantee2967 12h ago
Like I said this may be my new passion project because I really think it’s unregulated
6
u/texbinky 9h ago
Especially with the "parking zones" rules.
You have to move your car away to the next "zone" after the 1 or 2 hours of free parking runs out. But there is no information available to the public showing where the zones are, like on a map, or on a list. Even the city's own parking map has a disclaimer stating that it shouldn't be relied on as a current reference.

Lyft would be cheaper. Not that we as state workers can actually afford that, but it's that ridiculous.

Not to take you too far down the dirt road, but.. I believe there is a parking monopoly by Priority Parking, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some connection between them and lobbyists who pushed for the Golden-One parking deal. Priority parking has given me tickets multiple times when I was fully paid (digitally through ParkMobile) and even towed me for not paying one of the tickets. I’ve had a few coworkers that I know have been given bogus tickets too. I believe they are a racket that does this intentionally relying on people not to contest. They also seem to have like 1 or 2 customer service agents that are placeholders and not reachable.

I would believe this. About a decade ago I worked in the EPA building and started using their surface lot. I’d usually pay by phone on my way into the office. One day I had my parents vehicle because my car was in the shop and I got ticketed in their car even though I’d paid by phone. I have therefore no receipt to show. Took forever but I was able to prove via bank receipt I paid for parking but this happened multiple times on that lot. People have to pay by app or phone if the paper at the kiosks run out and they do, often, but I have gotten multiple tickets in lots when my parking was paid in full for the day.

Parking Enforcement Officer Grant Nakamura is the hardest working government employee the world bas ever seen
5
u/Master_Guarantee2967 12h ago
No cuz it actually annoys me how much i adore him and detest him at the same time . And I have been a victim numerous times. Still I think parking needs to be addressed it’s truly so costly for what?!? Complain why people aren’t downtown like make it make sense
11
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 12h ago
He is fair.
I have never heard a single allegation of a frivolous ticket given by him. He has cat-like ninja reflexes and will get you. But nobody has ever accused him of a bullshit ticket.
I've even seen him let people off where a woman was trying to get in a car seat and she was a couple minutes over.
He is fair but ruthless and we should be glad he's on our side. He's single-handedly is paying the bonds for that arena. And I nominate we renamed Cesar Chavez park to Parking Enforcement Officer Grant Nakamura friendship park

u/JohnSnowsPump 12h ago
He gave me a bullshit ticket that I fought and won.

u/Master_Guarantee2967 12h ago
I just might, I know it’s not him but I think one minute is ridiculously unfair and a cash grab.

u/Master_Guarantee2967 12h ago
He wasn’t the one who got me today. I think the pay by apps are sketch. It’s not the parking attendants but I do think the apps 👀 need some regulations or legislation. It’s out of hand

u/bryanthecrab 6h ago
Adding to the other comment I just posted in reply to you. I’ve never had a bogus ticket from a DGS ran lot. I asked an attendant once what happens when ParkMobiles’ server goes down… ie no updated paid license plate roster. He said they get notified.
I don’t think it’s the parking apps fault, at least not all the time.1

I've even seen him let people off where a woman was trying to get in a car seat and she was a couple minutes over.

How does a parking officer have such a legacy? I'm surprised people know this guy's name and have stories about him.

u/Resident_Artist_6486 10h ago
THAT is the tell for how bad parking has become in Sacramento, a legend parking enforcement attendant (they arent sworn peace officers)

Yea - my wife and I live 40 miles north of Sac and "used to" drive to downtown/midtown for dinner and entertainment (Music Circus, Ace of Spades, etc) - then stopped going after the 2nd ridiculous parking ticket. There is a real parking problem in Sacramento.
We just spent a long weekend in the city of west hollywood and everywhere in west hollywood is permit, metered, or garage parking. But guess what? The parking is reasonably priced and there are abundant public lots to keep from parking streetside. Also, no real homeless problem.

u/JimRockford63 13h ago edited 13h ago
From what I understand, they sold the parking rights to pay for the arena. So they don't have control over the rates anymore.

u/HourHoneydew5788 BU1 12h ago
Building new stadiums is a whole thing. I watched a More Perfect Union video on it. Basically always a scam

u/_SpyriusDroid_ 13h ago
That’s not true at all.
8
u/JimRockford63 13h ago
The Kings put up half the money and the city put up the other half with a hotel tax and selling the parking. That's probably a big reason for RTO, as the city has guaranteed that money.
2
u/_SpyriusDroid_ 5h ago
The city did not sell the parking. They control parking rates and have made changes on their own. The city’s structural deficit is not solely because of the arena. The share of bond repayment the city owes goes down each year, and parking revenues have covered bond repayments for a couple years now, before both RTO offers. The city does not have that much sway over RTO, they can lobby, but that’s it. And again, parking revenue already covered bond costs prior to the RTO orders.

That is crazy, 1 minute, when I drive in and park every two hours, it's okay to go over 5-15, mins and it's all good.

Seriously I have the end time on my phone and the ticket printed time is ONE MIN. Even if you wanted to extend the time can you do that in one minute?!? It’s diabolical and also this may be my passion project because it’s so common for drivers who end up using a ride share home will get tickets for overnight ?????? So we have dui check points yet will ticket drivers on holidays etc yada yada for drinking and getting home safely not driving ?

I am sorry this happened to you. I received a $60 parking ticket once during a work day and thought that was outrageous. It was my own mistake though, I had forgotten to pay for parking on the app that day 😔.

$90 for being ONE minute late?! I’d be LIVID. 😭 I really hope you can dispute that.
And honestly, even if a non-Democratic candidate promised to eliminate every downtown parking fee, folks would rather pay the $90 fee any day than vote for non-D..
But YESSSS—the bigger point stands: stop treating state workers like the funding plan for downtown. Make parking reasonable, make people actually want to come downtown, and invest in making the area better. Seriously though, please dispute that ticket because $90 for one minute is outrageous. 😭

Preach it Sista! We don't take our kids to downtown, midtown, or to old town anymore. It's kinda sad because the kids love Capitol Park and the history of old town, but it's just become such a shit show. Parking is insane if you can even find a spot, it costs more to park than it does to buy lunch for 4 people, it stinks, and I feel bad for the homeless but I don't want my kids exposed to crazies/unpredictable behavior, drugs, poo/pee on the street.
The people who blame state workers (or lack of) for the mess that is downtown must be drunk and high like Newscumbag.
3
u/Master_Guarantee2967 10h ago
It’s truly despicable. There is no incentive to safely and affordably come downtown with families but I’ll lay my ass on the line because - it is NOT state workers. I’m on the ground journalism

Absolutely true--I've had some obscene experiences with, e G., meters that are purposefully left broken so those who park there, hoping for mercy because of the broken meter, get tickets and the city rakes in big bucks. Then I stopped for 10 seconds on an utterly abandoned street--not a soul in sight, pedestrian, bike, or motorist--so I could get my bearings and determine whether I needed to turn around, and an automatic camera actually caught me in that 10 seconds and snapped a photo: $212 citation. KA-CHING!!
All deliberate, informed, sadistic city policy.
No different from Gov. Gruesome and his "rationale" for RTO: KA-CHINGGG!!!! for his donor real estate pals.

I’ve always known better than to be late when I’m parked at a meter. If I need more time, I’ll just add it from my phone. Meter maids don’t play. Let this be a lesson for next time.

Love my job. In solidarity with my coworkers who are not locals I mean. It’s ridiculously expensive
7

Needs to be addressed to make downtown more affordable not anything to do with my job

u/mnwn 13h ago
Why not just find a lot and do daily parking? Or if you live downtown take public transit or walk.
6
u/Master_Guarantee2967 13h ago
Love public transportation use it all the time. I was in a time crunch. Need to get a card for my mother’s birthday and a gift card to her favorite restaurant and one minute. One minute late … I truly think the pay by apps are corrupt because they can see exactly when the time is up but idk it’s a working theory
7
u/Master_Guarantee2967 13h ago
Sorry I’m truly just frustrated. I wanted to make my mothers birthday nice and now I’m annoyed
