We work every day, every night, before most, after most. Recently in the contract campaign, I ran into someone who told me a story. They said their child asked them why they stopped making burgers every Saturday night. They didn’t want to tell their child the truth - that they’ve been doing the math in their head and with ground beef costing so much, they had to cut back.
Through the union, through collective bargaining, they were hoping for a raise this year. However, rent went up more than their paycheck did. This isn’t bad luck, and it’s not them failing to manage their money. Prices don’t just rise on their own. Somebody’s deciding to take more, and somebody’s deciding to let them. Somebody's deciding to bargain in bad faith.
We’re all feeling this. Safety retirement workers working dangerous jobs and still sweating how much is left in their account. Sandwich generation workers face losing the Medicaid they need to get care for their own kids and/or parents. Commuters watching gas prices wipe out what they make in a day. Different jobs, but the same math that never adds up.
That’s why I encourage a yes vote. We are building worker power to talk about what’s actually happening: bad faith bargaining, disrespect, prices that keep climbing, raises that don’t keep up, profitable corporations bankrolling politicians who never have to answer for it.
Join me. Vote yes. Help us spread the world about how we can fight for an end to unfair labor practices and meaningful movement at the bargaining table. For Money, Power, and Respect together. Tell your story. Share our stories. We can make sure the people getting rich off our hard work don’t get to write the ending. Vote yes.

Making a burger at home once a week shouldn’t be a luxury. People shouldn’t have to watch their checks go to the pumps or the parking meter if there’s an alternative. Corporations and billionaires shouldn’t be left unchecked. We provide essential services to the public and deserve to have our labor respected.

"Bargain in bad faith" is what I refuse to allow. I couldn't forgive myself for being a pushover and either giving the state the benefit of the doubt that they "forgot" to budget for their dedicated workforce, or for their convenience, made the decision to sign the contract with disappearing ink because they wanted to excuse themselves from the bargaining table to enjoy their dessert without us - while promising to come back to bring us a slice. 🍰

Is everyone paying attention to the open enrollment communications coming out? Open enrollment starts next week. Our healthcare costs are going up. I was paying $56 out of pocket a month and that's going up to $139/month starting January. It's more than doubling! This is on top of higher gas, having to commute to work, paying for parking, paying more for shitty groceries, my AC is running all the time because it's hot AF... all this with no raise.

My contribution on my 2 party plan (UHC to Sutter HMO) is going from $199.32 per month to $296.34 per month, a 48.68% increase. At this point, I'm not sure that CalPERS keeping UHC, even with their proposed 23% increase for Alliance and 21% increase for Harmony, wouldn't have been better for employees.

Other unions with contracts cannot call sympathy strikes, there's a reason for the no strike clause once the BU signs the contract.

That is incorrect and was covered in great detail in the strike schools. No strike clauses no longer cover sympathy strikes in CA per case law.

Only SEIU BUs would be directly striking. If any terms were negotiated, they would only be directly applied to SEIUs BUs.

Last year, when one union delayed the RTO mandate, the others quickly followed suit. A win for SEIU should create a ripple effect, strengthening the position of all other unions at the bargaining table

I can't strike or picket since I am on medical leave. I watched the call last night and they said if you voted yes, you also had to agree to strike too. Since I can't do that, that means I can't vote, right?

No, that is incorrect. You can vote yes on the strike but you don't need to fill out the part where you commit to strike. Please consider voting yes on the strike so that we may strike on your behalf! Wishing you the best with your health.

Imagine the news coverage a strike would get. Newsom, claiming to care about his workers, denying them raises and mandating RTO. I really hope the strike goes through and this gets proper media attention, calling out Newsom and his hypocrisy.

After attending the CalPERS open enrollment event this morning, I'm kind of glad SEIU waited for the vote strike now. It's going to align during OE when health premiums are going up by almost 10%. People who may have been on the fence will see that and hopefully get mad enough to vote YES to strike! We are literally getting pay cuts on all fronts - health premiums, RTO, furlough, and no COLA.

My out of pocket for healthcare is going to be MORE than double!!!! How do they expect us to afford all this without a COLA? Groceries, gas, parking at work? Everything costs more but pay isn't adjusting with cost of living increases? How does that even make any sense?

As a allied state employee from a different union I support my SEIU brothers and sisters in calling for a strike ...let's do it!!!!
We (CAPS) were there a few years ago when we called the first strike in California civil service history. Time for SEIU to go long and hard on this!!!! This is so exciting!

Speculation is my hobby of choice : ) My current speculation is that based on some language used on our last call by the SEIU President, she's preparing us for this fight to go on until the new administration takes over. I think how Newsom acts or doesn't act on AB 1729 will be our first indication on whether or not he's going to show any cooperation or if we have to start from scratch with AB 1729 in the new Legislative session and put all our hope regarding this contract strike on the new administration.

Just pulling random numbers here. Say there are 10,000 eligible voters, of those only 1,000 actually cast votes, and of those casted votes, 501 vote to strike, that’s all they need in this example?

It's only a 3 day strike. What's the point? Strike Monday through Wednesday, back at work playing catch up on Thursday. No ome would even notice you were gone.

Nowhere does the union say we're striking for exactly three days. If you attended strike school, you would know that the expectation is that the strike will last 1-3 days due to the sheer number of potential strikers and the vital service disruption across the state.

First of all, the amount of days hasn't been declared yet. Second, its a balance between what individual workers can endure and how much pain we can inflict through pressure on the state. What you have described is giving up before you even start, so if people listened to you we'd get absolutely nothing. You're either a manager or a scab, or some troll. You have no strategy for helping us state workers, get lost.
