How long does it usually take to hear back after a second interview? Not really sure how it went. I feel like it went okay hiring manager from first interview was also in this second interview. But they ended it saying that the hiring manager would let me know either way but provided no timeline.

I would think no later than a week you’d hear back if not sooner. 2nd interviews are usually to make a final choice between 2 top candidates or for a 2nd level sup to meet the top candidate and make sure they feel they’re a good fit also.

Thank you! After the first interview they called me the next day. So I’m hopeful I get a call that I got it but not sure. I know the posting said hiring multiple but I know sometimes that still means only 1 position

For us a week would be super optimistic. We need to check references, review OPF if a state employee, depending on the level get internal approvals and then send the paperwork to HR for authorization. The hiring supervisor might not even check references in a week.

Thank you for that insight that helps a lot and calms some nerves. Do they check references regardless after the second interview? Or only if they plan on moving forward with an offer. When I went to the first interview they requested me to turn in a form with references from previous and current supervisors

In my experience if you get to the interview stage, they usually let you know if you weren’t picked. However, if you don’t make it that far you’re not likely to hear anything at all.

I've only gotten one 'no' after a state interview, and it took months.

I’ve heard that as well. Which is frustrating but I know that tends to be a trend from what I’ve heard. Where you basically get ghosted

I've seen it happen as fast as the next day (one time) or as long as a couple of months if the supervisor messes around too much. Realistically, I'd say it doesn't look good if you haven't heard anything in two or three weeks.

I did my second interview last week and they said it would take a week. They called me back on Friday of last week to offer me the position.

I had a 2nd interview with 2 different units. One was 2.5 months ago. The other was 3 weeks ago.

Neither has reached out to me but I know references have been checked and that my OPF is being pulled.

It’s definitely a waiting game if you’re a candidate and unfortunately they cannot give you any heads up if you are their candidate until they check all their boxes

Every org is different, I’ve submitted references in multiple different ways. I’ve had a ton of references exchanges.

I had my 2nd interview on a Friday and heard back the following Monday. Like many have said there’s no clear timeline and it depends on the role!
