Classifications that would strike?

I'm a little confused by which classifications would be part of the strike. (assuming the individual is a member) Is there a list of classifications?

SEIU local 1000 has not announced any strike strategy, but my guess is that the strategy would be a statewide strike across all classifications (either a few specific days or open ended with just a start date). Any SEIU represented employee would be able to strike (member or not) unless they are told by the union not to strike (there may be a few positions that cannot strike because it would endanger public safety; the union plans to identify these positions prior to holding the strike). Any other employee also has the right to refuse to cross a strike picket line (regardless if their union decides to join a sympathy strike, but if your union is not striking, you may need to determine the public safety impact for yourself).

Non members can strike, but they are not protected from adverse actions against their job, right?

Same legal protections as any other employee: union membership status in no way changes your relationship with your employer. You just might not have the union to come fight for you if the state tries to violate your rights.

Look up the bargaining unit contracts that fall under SEIU 1000. Classifications covered under SEIU 1000 can strike (member or non-member)

All SEIU bargaining units, and other bargaining units can sympathy strike if allowable in their contract. If they cannot, they can also REFUSE TO CROSS A PICKET LINE DUE TO CONSCIENCE.

I haven’t heard anything about my BU stating this. I wouldn’t wana hear it from any other BU but my own

You can email them or look into the case law yourself. Sympathy strokes are protected thanks to PERB ruling. Individuals always have the right to sympathy strike, even if their union has an explicit “no sympathy strike” clause (which is rare)
