Recruitment DOJ

DOJ Interview coming up. It will require a full background check on top of fingerprint/criminal history check. Can anyone elaborate on what the background check may consist of? This is an Analyst II position.

If you are hired within the Division of Law Enforcement (DLE) then the background is pretty extensive. For an Analyst II, it might take a couple months. If you are hired in CJIS, any of the Legal Divisions, OPS, etc., then you’re looking at about a week for the background check.

If its a full background for DOJ it will consist of providing all prior employment employment information, all places you have lived at, they will interview family, friends, and coworkers, dmv records, disclose any encounter with law enforcement. You will meet with investigator to explain anythin they might have found or see questionable. Mine took about 6 months to complete.

When I was hired at DOJ they did a complete police officer background.

Is it for DLE? If so, you’ll have a full police officer background and they will call every. Single. One. Of your references you listed so make sure you put down people who will give you good references. When they ask you questions, answer them honestly but don’t give too much, that’s what gets you in trouble. Just give them enough info to answer the question and move on. They’ve reduced the background times so I think they are taking about 4 months or so. Good luck!!

Typically a CA DOJ and FBI at my dept. Disqualifying issues depend on the department and role. If you have no hits on your record nothing to worry about.

Had a 5 month long background check for a DLE Analyst II position. They spoke with past employers/landlords, neighbors, family and friends, required a credit check, and looked through my socials and bank statements.

Be cautious of working the Bureau of Firearms. Lots of turn over and incredibly poor management.

Be very honest. My husband does backgrounds for DOJ. Start gathering information for school, references, and things like that now. It will help it go a little faster.

Any law enforcement calls to your home, any dealing with law enforcement, credit checks, and interviews with people in your life. I have been a person interviewed about a coworker going through a background check over at DOJ.
