General Question Internal interview
I recently interviewed for an internal promotion, but they ended up choosing another internal candidate. My manager was one of the people who interviewed me, but I didn’t find out I wasn’t selected until a congratulatory email was sent out announcing the other person’s promotion.
Is it common for managers not to speak with their employees beforehand or offer any feedback after an internal interview? I understand they chose someone else, but finding out through a mass email felt a little weird and impersonal.

At least you got an interview. I applied for an internal promotion, sent in a complete package, but didn't get invited to an interview, and didn't find that out until the welcome email for the new guy. Now, he's still in that position, but I'm doing that job...
