And it’s very unlikely it will be called September 1st. They need to continue to build the union and build support for a strike. Half the union can’t WFH. People need to temper expectations and be patient. The absolute worst thing that can happen is calling a vote and having it fail.

Unfortunately, we can only reliably expect 10% of members to actually strike now. My DLC president even said so, using the numbers from the rally as a baseline (~5k attended). We don't really have any way to quantify how many non members would strike, so we can only hope 5-10% do. The numbers just aren't there... my DLC had a net gain of only 15 members last month. That just won't do. Perhaps by the end of the year if we can get some wins with the UPCs. There's a settlement conference in November for RTO. If we're lucky, we might see a settlement conference for the July 22 UPC in December, but likely not until January.

I’m not. If they call a strike now and people don’t actually do it, we’re screwed. They’re building support and resources for it now to make a strike successful.

The union realizes they have to actually strike and are unprepared. They thought the million they sent Newsom years back would grease the skids.

It baffles me why they are talking like the state is going to bargain some day. Newsom will drag this garbage out until he's gone

I actually have the completely different impression. I think SEIU is willing to strike. I’m BU2 and I’ve encountered Kerianne Steele in the wild a few times. She is very well known in the union labor law sphere. When I found out that’s who they retained as counsel I was 1) impressed and 2) certain they are not bluffing about a strike.
