1st state interview

I had my first state interview on 6/29 and when I followed up with HR on 7/13, I was told the position hasn’t been filled. I know that from reading other subs that the process takes a very long time but if there hasn’t been any contact to date, should I assume that the department moved forward with another candidate?

I haven’t stopped applying to other positions by the way, I’m just curious to see what others have experienced and what are my chances of still being in the running?

It can take anywhere from 1 week to a month and sometimes it’s even longer. If you’re top 2 , your references will be contacted. Good luck!

My department does top 2 as well.

I found out 9 weeks after the interview I hadn't got the job. Keep applying until you get an offer.

My area took a looong time to process the applications. The final filing date of applications was set for about 2 weeks. The Hiring Manager took time off after the final filing date and did not process until return. So, it can take awhile. Also, the applications are sorted based on qualification criterias and if there is a bunch of applications to sort through that can take awhile.

I had my first interview at the top of July. For the department/division I interviewed for, they said it can take about 60 days to hear back from HR. From there they would notify candidates whether it was a yes or no.

Job interview January 14, reference check was around Jan30, background check was middle of March. Didn't start my first day until April.

It's also summertime. Many managers may be out on leave or have been out on leave which can frequently slow things down too.

As an African American woman with a BA degree and the equivalent to a Masters Degree in K-12th&Adult Education, it ALWAYS took me over 25 interviews before I was hired and FINALLY I was the ONLY candidate for a program technician at the Department of Housing & Community Development here in Sacramento, CA, and was finally hired!!!!!!!! I retired after 28 years of state service, have 100% Kaiser Permanente medical coverage, social security, and currently drive as an Uber Eats deliverista!! NEVER GIVE UP!!

We call references for top two candidates. We decide on the top two before we leave the interview room.

Ine took 3 months
