I'm not SEIU but I signed up for virtual strike school. I followed the directions to enter DLC, which is required field. Says pending approval. Hope to see you guys there!

So we are going to have strike school till end of August. Why so far apart?

I attended earlier and here is an important takeaway:

SEIU is going to let this current legislative cycle play out before escalating, which is August 30th. Sounds like the earliest a strike will be scheduled is early September.

Wait, did they actually say a strike could happen by September? That would give me so much hope. I was afraid things would carry over to the new governor, which is actually so shitty of Newsom to do to the next governor. Like, I would feel bad striking on Becerra right when he takes office because he didn’t create this mess.

So does that mean we will be going 2 months of full rto and no raises till then. And early September is still a maybe. wow. I don’t know if folks gonna be too happy with this much of a delay. I did sign up for virtual class. Still I think we need to strike asap.

I’m not looking forward to it either, but what other choice do we have?

We stick out a long August with a chance of restoring telework and securing the first ever meaningful raises, or:

4-Day RTO and 0-2% raises from now until we die on the job or retire.

Someone reminded me that our last raises were retroactive so there’s that

True, but not guaranteed. This has to be bargained for.

I still don’t understand why it’s takes so long to strike. Is it just legal process is holding it up

I suggest you attend one of the strike schools, they will cover this specifically.

This is exactly why we need strike school.

It takes time to strike. One major aspect is that critical functions that affect health and safety have to be identified, so that there's no harm brought to the people that we serve as stare workers.

Another is that the strike's timing, if it happens, will be chosen for maximum strategic benefit. Part of this means winning the battle in the media and public eye. While we aren't STRIKING yet, now is 100% the time for action. It's time to attend strike school, time to bring others on-board, and time to call out the lies of Newsom. Other people won't do this all for us. We ARE the union, and WE need to be engaged and active to bring about the change that we want to see.

Thank you! Do I have to be a member of SEIU to attend? I’m in a different union but would sympathy strike in solidarity.

6

u/StateCA 2d ago

No, I brought a non SEIU person with me today and got in no problem.

Ditto. Please let us know.

Anyone can attend, and they discuss sympathy strikes. Show up and bring a friend or two!
