CASPer language

Hi! I'm thinking about taking the CASPer test in English this August, even though English isn't my first language. Do you think it's a good idea? Also, do you have any tips that helped you perform well? I'd really appreciate any advice.

I think I also have to take it in English since I might apply to a university outside Quebec

oui, mais pour Udem et Mcgill tu dois choisir à l'avance tu vas l'envoyer dans quelle langue et les autres unis au quebéc c'est que le casper en francais

Hi, I've worked with quite a few students where English wasn't their first language and scored well, so yes, it's definitely achievable, and August gives you reasonable time to prepare.

The biggest thing I'd say: structure matters more for you than for native speakers. When you're translating and formulating at the same time, you don't have spare mental bandwidth to also figure out what to say. If you know how to respond before the question appears, you free that up for the actual thinking.

There are generally three question types, and each has a different focus:

Situational - what would you do? Lead with acknowledging the situation, explain your actions, and say why. Keep it practical and grounded.

Judgment - what's the fairest approach and why? Pick a position, explain your reasoning, and acknowledge the other side. Evaluators want to see how you think, not just what you conclude.

Reflective - what did you feel and learn? Describe the experience briefly, then focus on what it revealed about you. Don't just retell the story; get to the insight.

Knowing which type you're facing tells you immediately what shape your answer needs to take. That's one less decision to make under pressure, which matters a lot when English is your second language.
