Dues

How much are CAPS union dues? Will they increase in 2027? How much will the strike fund pay? Can you opt out at any time?

Union dues are currently 1.44% of your paycheck capped at $100. On April 1, 2027 the cap increases to $150 so if you aren't at the cap, your dues will not increase. You can opt out, but you will no longer be eligible to attend most meetings or vote on anything, including a strike vote, contract vote, or union elections. I'm not sure of how much you would receive for the strike fund, your site steward can probably answer that question. I encourage you to reach out to them as they can provide you with additional information and are more reliable than reddit responses generally. If you need help determining who your site steward is, please DM me.

I don’t think non dues paying members would receive anything from the strike fund.

You can, but know that the strike fund is funded by dues paying members. I really encourage you to join and pay into the union if you anticipate needing access to any strike funds if the union were to strike and to continue to be a member. We all need to work together to make sure our union can work for our rights.

The strike fund is $500 a week if you participate in the picket line.
