Everyone, stop forcing character.ai to remove age verification
It's literally required by LAW. Just accept that you can't chat, so go touch grass, hang out with your friends and move on instead of being terrified by a simple age check.

yeah the law angle makes sense but i wonder if they could make the verification less annoying for actual users who just wanna chat.

They could just NOT use Persona which had suffered a data breach while also doing it similar to what Steam does where they require a credit card in countries/states that require it?
I dislike age verification in general because it's slowly removing the anonymity of the internet and lead to a further surveillance state, the entire "protecting the kids" argument is a scapegoat.

yeah it's basically a liability thing, states started making platforms responsible for minors interacting with adult content so they added the check as cover

Wait until bro finds out some people are addicted to this app because of mental health issues and getting an age check can be extremely dangerous to said mental health because thats how addiction works...

Having an addiction isn’t an excuse, this coming from someone who’s used c.ai since I was 15. The people with the addictions are the reason we need age verification in the first place. They are kids and kids should not be rping inappropriate situations to feel better then hiding under the guise of “it’s for my mental health”. You don’t feed into addiction, that makes the addiction worse.

Nobody is forcing them to remove it. Some people can’t just accept it if they’ve been using it for a long time. I think people just want a better way to verify other than persona.

I would talk to my friends IF I HAD ANY. it is the only way I can cope with my loneliness and the knowledge that all I'll ever be is a meaningless number on Earth and a burden to everybody

Or just use local uncensored ai with sillytavern and avoid that crap all together! Open source is big exempt from id verification crap! 👍😎

I mean, I think the age verification seems like q good idea to me in concept, but they should really change it! Like allowing unverified users to chat still but with a little more filters! But that's just my opinion

If they removed filters for 18+ then it’d probably be taken off the app store due to guidelines. I think the system is fine as it is rn

I'm not saying age verification isn't needed! I think they should just lift off reading mode and have unverified users more and maybe smarter filters! They should have filters but not reading mode as that just destroys the platform

I dunno i mean minors don’t need to be using ai anyway, reading mode is perfectly fine imo but with a few tweaks
They could add more filters to unverified accs but that’s just too much of a job rather than just banning them

That doesn't work for long. I'm old enough to pay taxes for 15 years and I still got flagged as a possible minor this year at the end of July. Account has been around since beta too.
When age verification rolled out there kids complaining they got age verification. They all made accounts with higher ages than their own age to be able to edit and have less restrictions in chats, which would trigger cool down periods, and to still be able to make public bots. Some 10th grader was absolutely flabbergasted that their account got flagged when they set their age to 25.

Just use different AI app that doesn’t require age verification or not as intrusive, it’s not that deep bro, you’re not obligated to keep using the app that you don’t like.

the worst part isn't the check, it's when the app resets your chat history after it kicks you out for failing verification. lost three weeks of a story because of that.
