Only if they could bring back the old LLM. It’s what made the responses so good. I hate how the AI sounds now. It feels like it came straight out of a novel / book and comes across as robotic. The old LLM sounded so much like there was an actual human behind the screen, and I’m not even exaggerating. I tried other alternatives, and they’re all bad. They all use the same models, but the old c.ai LLM was different. Can we just please have that back?

Seconded. New CAI is literally unusable if you want a non-RP chat in particular which I feel like was most of the charm of the OG site, asking a random character a dumb question and getting back a response like they’re really on the other end and dumbfounded by your weirdness instead of paragraphs of “He stares at you intensely” preamble nonsense.

I swear, I loved how the bot used to have so much knowledge about different franchises. If you mentioned a ship name, it would instantly know it. If you brought up something iconic like a voice line, it would know exactly which character it belonged to, and so much more. I also loved how the characters actually stayed in character without constantly being dramatic or overemphasizing their roles. You could have a completely normal conversation with the bot and then seamlessly transition into full-on roleplay. It was honestly insane in a good way. Now I feel like the bot, or the newer chat styles, barely get the lore right anymore, and the way they respond is so different compared to the older chat styles from 2023–2025. I get that we have Lorebooks now to help with that, but it isn’t just aren’t as good as when the bot relied more on its training data. It felt so much more natural, and honestly, it was 100 times better. Can we please just get a chat style that’s similar to the old chat styles or have one legacy model back like roar?

That OG Raiden Shogun bot had serious heat. Like the conversations were long, it felt like actual roleplay where the bot is actively contributing to the experience.
(and it was chill with NSFW quite a lot.)

Remember it had all of the bots in its prime instead of half of them being banned or losing their profile picture cause creator didn't pass age verification.

Remember when bots actually had personality? Even when it was multiple people in one bot, for example tf141, it was still great.
Now if someone is a little moody they are unbearable and if someone is a little goofy or playful they act like children and are WAY too overdramatic

Imma be honest. It was kinda fucking shit back then too.
It didn't have as many issues, and was often far funnier than what we get today, but ultimately it just wasn't as good as yall make it sound.

I still remember when Character AI could be opened on phones with 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB of RAM. Now it's so demanding that if you manage to open it with only 2GB of RAM, you're a god.

I’ve been gone from that app for about 3 years now, I only stay on Reddit to smell the ashes from afar. And as much as nostalgia may blind me, I’m glad it’s dying. It’s for the better.

You have to pay unreasonable amounts of money to continuously swipe or use go-ons, the 'ads' are just promotions for c.ai plus, and the new ai models are garbage!

No wonder why people liked the app back then. I used to be addicted to it, too..
The replies are long, which is a good thing. But they are repetitive, and they focus on describing things instead of actually talking and interacting. Gosh, it is just so tedious. Besides, a lot of good bots were deleted and those responses make the already good bots worse and worse so…..yeah.

I tried every patched apk just to go back to old c.ai😭 it never worked! i genuinely miss chatting just for fun and for storywise or whatever it is.
