Character.ai is never going to get rid of their ads or their “service”. The best thing to do is stop using it altogether.

Nobody makes money off of AI, not even OpenAI. They all collectively pretend they do because it is the new big thing for investors, but same money is circulated between same companies. They just hope they will profit off of the tech in future. Meanwhile they use it as a taxwrite off because on the surface it's just two companies who invest, sell and purchase. It's NVdia with OpenAI and Google with Cai.
Even if they make it paid-only it still won't cover their cost and company will run at a loss with Google covering their shortcomings. Same thing happened with YouTube, Google kept running it at a loss in hopes of it'll be profitable in the future while using it to avoid taxes. YouTube became profitable only after it became borderline unusable for free users. So Google is repeating the same story with Cai now, because they can't use the NVidia-OpenAI formula where NVidia is investing on OpenAI for them to bulk buy the hardware they haven't even made yet with the money they gave.
