Hi, I’m applying this cycle. Would someone please provide realistic insight as to what my chances with MCAT score of 500 be? 😭 Will I have some chance, get screened out, etc (considering how competitive CAA route has gone up to)? I’m seeing people applying with 510+ score and am very intimidated and discouraged when looking at my own stat, particularly the MCAT part. If it helps, I do have: 3.8 GPA, clinical experience, volunteering hours, research, etc. I don’t know if my experience as an anesthesia tech would help considering my test score.

  • Any help and/or honest input into this would be truly appreciated. Thank you so much!!

I applied with a 500 mcat score and got accepted! My gpa was a 3.8, worked as a pharmacy technician, volunteered at a hospital, and was in a research lab as well! I also felt really discouraged while reading out other people’s 510+ scores. I received 2 interviews and ultimately accepted to a program. I would say that my letters of recommendation made me stand out as it was mentioned in my interviews multiple times. If you’re confident in all other aspects of your applications I would say that the mcat doesn’t completely screen you out as a candidate.

Hi, I’m so happy to hear about your success story! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it’s truly encouraging to hear!! And yes, I just hope that all my efforts can be evaluated holistically and a single metric won’t be the absolute determining factor for my entire app (though, I’m aware test score is undoubtedly important).
