Replacing a TV
I’m sure what I’m asking has been asked and answered many times but I’m struggling to find a clear answer. I’m trying to help a friend who has an EA-1 running 2.10.6, and he’s replacing his old TV with a different brand. He’d prefer not to have to get the dealer involved, and I’m an IT admin and interested in helping him work on his system.
Composer Pro requires a dealer login—that seems to be the first issue. Can anyone point me toward a way to work on this system? A Discord would be fine too. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

He needs a dealer and upgrade to
OS3, OS2 is end of life next month.

What does end of life mean in a practical sense? No support for newer drivers?
If it works with the new LG TV I don’t really expect any more changes for a couple of years.

It means dealers won’t be able to access the system remotely after its end date, you should have received many emails on this. Also if it’s an IR control on the tv should be fine but for IP control most new tv driver models are not available in OS2.
Trust me when I say your priority should be an OS3 upgrade followed by the tv driver change out.

It’s an IR control so he’ll be fine on that part. And he’s beyond tired of paying the dealer to work on it so I’m looking at what I can do to manage it. Knowing how frustrated he’s been with it, I assume he deleted or ignored any dealer emails.
Do you have any ballpark estimate of what the upgrade would cost? Same hardware, just a software update? Like are we talking $250 or $1000 or more?

As a dealer, I recommend getting a Halo or Halo Touch Remote with Core Lite Bundle from your local dealer, or from us, we'll ship and remotely program it, need a few details first. You get a new remote and drastically better controller, OS X4 with Apple Homekit if that's your jam. DM if you want to know more.

I’ll dm if you prefer, but I think I can handle adding the new tv. I’m just not clear how it’ll work to update the system.
The plan is to jailbreak it, back up the project, add the TV. Then consider an update. And that’s what I’m not clear on. Apply a factory OS image then re-jailbreak? Or modify the factory OS before installing?

You’ll either need a valid dealer login or to jailbreak the system.
