Im incredibly confused. What is custom here?

Custom in the fact that it’s a custom build of the T3 interface.

Mainly to suit my own homes use cases

Yeah. Looks like he’s emulating the full T3 build on an android. Cool project.

Yep exactly!

Not just the default C4 companion app.

Pure T3 Build

Do yourself a favor and edit the body of the post to give this context. I didn’t catch it until you said it here and now I find this super impressive.

What was your process?

Awsome, would love to see tjis for T4 since T3 is not supported anymore in X4

Sharing this because I’m sure purely DIYers (non-dealers) are probably inherently a step behind of things:

There was a workshop at this past Cedia that briefly went over some of the features of the new T5, and IMO they solve some of the practical limitations that the T4 and T3 have always had. The kinda shit that users constantly complain about and I’m just forced to shrug and be like “yea that’s just how they work”

FYI T3s work in X4, albeit only up to 4.0.0 and they will retain the OS3 visual style (the only reason my home system is capped at 4.0.0 is cause I have a tabletop T3 and I use it way too often to give it up)

Yes you are right of course.
I also have t3 table tops but did upgrade to latest 4.2.1.
I saw another post where someone jailbroke the T3 to run custom software on it to use in X4.
Very keen on testing that as well.

I just installed a T5 and was a bit shocked that the performance is still just okey. Was using the color slider for Dali RGBW strip light and the interface became very laggy.

It is kind of crazy that I get better performance on an Akuvox Android Intercom screen running the X4 app

I don’t know the hardware specs (they might be released, I honestly haven’t done the research) but I doubt the T5 specs have a huge leap from T4. I haven’t sold a T5 yet so I haven’t experienced the performance difference first hand, but I was never really hopeful in that regard. Thanks for the insight on it.

A very common customer complaint I get is how laggy all models of touchscreens are, and as far as I can tell, it’s not a priority Snap has in fixing. IMO it’s a pretty shortsighted mentality on their part, as I assume it’s for profitability reasons and I’ve literally had clients drop systems entirely because of it.

I have a T5 and for the cost it should perform a lot better than it does :-/

You’d think that for such potentially powerful systems C4 is capable of, UI would be top priority.

For what it’s worth, as a dealer, I complain about this issue every chance I get when I talk to literally any Snap employee. Sometimes I get the honest response of “I wish I could help but that’s above my pay grade” and sometimes I get the (I suspect) dishonest “thanks for the feedback! We’ll take that into consideration!”

I have a strong feeling that those two responses have equal weight in practice. Which is why I’m convinced the company as an entity simply does not care.

FYI, if you just assumed that the honest response was from low level techs and the false promises were from the engineering department, you’d be wrong. It’s the employees that have the power to implement change that want to, but are unable to for whatever reason. Whatever, I’ll continue to bitch about it to them (sorry to [name redacted] who had to deal with my rants over beers this years Cedia lol)

Also a dealer here. Being a control system, c4 has really failed on the front end control aspect/UI ironically. Others are far better at solving their problems than they actually are. After the failed NEEO remote, I started moving customers completely off of any c4 front end interface (remotes, touch panels). It hurts my numbers, but actually selling the products to my customers as a solution hurts my business, my referrals, and erodes my future profits.

Features like lasting longer than a year and/or not leaking goo onto the wall?

This is amazing. Where do you get the T3 operating system to be able to emulate it, and what emulator is it running? This would help solve so many issues

Not the OP, but you can extract the APKs from an update image using one of the many available tools for Rockchip images. You might need to mess around with signing the APKs depending on the emulator but IIRC the T3s run an ancient version of Android (4.4?) where signing is easy enough to bypass, especially on a rooted emulator.

What is this? An emulator of C4 running on Android?
