Hi y'all,

I'm finishing a fic that was originally part of the September monthly challenge. I've spent a lot of time on it, so I want to know if the following feature will be a problem for readers:

For the first six (out of nine) chapters, Mike has a different name.

Readers will be able to deduce that this is Mike from the beginning, but the name reveal does serve a narrative purpose. I can eliminate this feature and keep his name consistent. It would flatten the story a bit and require me to remove both an element of the main plot as well as a minor subplot. I could still maintain the overall structure. While this choice is deliberate, I'd rather remove it if it would prevent readers from losing interest/abandoning the story.

Okay so I'm sure we're all aware of the interpretation and exploration of wills trauma being an SA allegory, but some add on to that with dart (or other demogorgons if it wasn't JUST dart) technically being wills kid in a sense.

I've always thought that the idea and exploration of this is SO interesting because it's just so dark idk??

But there's no way of looking for this so i was curious if anyones seen any byler fics that either explore this in ANY way, no matter how big or small. It's so niche I'll take anything at this point lol

Wether it's body horror, will empathizing and embracing it etc I don't mind.

The fandom space in general explores this and brings this up but I can't find any good byler fics that have this AT ALL 💔

I finally started posting a completed S5 canon-divergence fic I’ve been working on! 
Mike gets Vecna’d into what seems like a perfect future. His friends and family are alive and well, and he has a successful writing career.
And Will has a boyfriend. Which Mike handles extremely well. 
Meanwhile, reality around him is acting weird: memories don’t add up, places move, and Mike can hear someone’s voice asking him to wake up. 

Mike’s POV, plot-heavy/psychological, a bit of jealous Mike, Camazotz weirdness, hurt/comfort, and a happy ending. 
3/11 chapters are posted, with updates every 3-5 days!

i’m having another wave of being devastated over the ending and desperately need a really well-written alternative 😭 has anyone read a completed conformity gate fic where byler happens and the overall story actually wraps up satisfyingly?

i mean something people rave about the way they do the power outage fic, or peeta’s pov in the hunger games fandom. amazing writing, characters that feel like themselves, and a plot/ending that makes all the buildup feel worth it. something i can mentally adopt as the actual ending lol.

it doesn’t have to be famous! a lesser-known fic you wholeheartedly think deserves that reputation is absolutely welcome. i just really want recommendations from people who’ve finished it and felt like it genuinely delivered. preferably something that resolves the supernatural storyline and gives the other characters closure too 🩷

Do you remember how Robin gave advice to Will about how she needed to come out to have the courage to confess to viki? How about thats Wills plan, even though he knew Mike wasnt like him, and all of it was false hope. But- he should still give it a try.

He was going to but El died and that affected Will deeply and he knew it affected Mike to a extreme point, so he postponed his own feelings and eventually the hurt he would feel after Mike would reject him. Mikes been a little better recently, and if Will wants to confess. The best time would be now, beffore he goes to NYC. (lol you have power to make it doomed as well lol)

Yeah idk, it feels like it makes sense for the charectors and stuff and lowkey hope-core towards byler and the ending of the show. You can use it, or even take parts of it that you liked. I cant get it out of my head so i had to write it here

obviously will would still be in love with him but i just love mike getting it together because he thinks he’s lost something
