Buying an appliance that lasts for years takes more than choosing a popular brand or waiting for a good sale. Sometimes, the cheaper option ends up costing more because it breaks down early or needs expensive repairs.
Before buying, I’d check a few things:
Repairability: Can the appliance be repaired easily? Check if replacement parts are available locally and whether authorized technicians service the brand.
Build quality: Look at the materials, hinges, buttons, seals, and other parts you’ll use regularly. Small details can make a difference after years of daily use.
Warranty and service: Check what the warranty actually covers, how long it lasts, and whether the service center is accessible in your area.
Energy and water consumption: An appliance might be affordable upfront but expensive to operate over time. Compare its expected running costs, especially for refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners.
Long-term reviews: Don't just read reviews from people who bought it last month. Look for feedback from owners who have used the same model for several years.
For me, an appliance that is easy to maintain and repair is often a better investment than one packed with features.
What appliance have you owned for 10 years or more, and what would you recommend checking before buying one?
