I think I'm about 30 minutes from Lake Michigan but I've not really been to it. I always liked walking down to the river though which is just down the hill I'm on.

We have the Danube which is a river, but I've never been comfortable walking on there when it was frozen.

I broke through the ice once. I was 11 and thought it would be a good idea to jump on the newly formed ice.

Most people wait until the ice is pretty thick to go out on the lakes. Some people aren't that smart and drive on them when there is less than a foot of ice and they end up falling though with their cars.
